Good Night Stay

First of all we were freaked out at the number of terrible reviews I read once we had booked this room. We were relieved to find out that the majority of peoples complaints were unfounded. We were checked in by a lovely young woman and not the virtual check-in everyone seemed to be so upset about. I'm not service of that check-in option had been discontinued or if the system was down. Nonetheless check in was a breeze. The room is small but has everything you need for a short stay. The bed was comfortable. There was a coffee make, a small refrigerator , a large TV with good picture and streaming options and 2 complimentary bottles of water. The shower was modern with good water pressure. There is limited counter space in the bathroom but it is functional. Most importantly the room was clean. Parking is free and there are no expensive resort fees. We were there for a medical procedure the following morning at UCSF. For us The Catrina offered exactly what we required and I would stay again if needed.

Police arrested guest; moldy bathroom with ants

Very mediocre - we saw negative reviews about the check-in process (there is a computer monitor that shows a human video calling in from a remote location), the soap (there were three giant screw top bottles of soap: one called "hand soap", one called "shampoo", and one called "shampoo conditioner" which sucked. Nothing labeled body soap), and the neighbor (police came to the room next to ours and lead someone away in handcuffs). On top of all of this, the bathroom window was COVERED in mold and we saw ants throughout the bathroom.

This was the first time I checked in with a remote hotel service. It actually was very easy and efficient. We were there for a wedding and we had five rooms. It was overall very clean with a large parking lot that was easy to access. There was certainly some wear and tear on the rooms. All of our rooms have been smoked in recently. But overall a good experience… And it was priced well

Terrible staying in Catrine Hotel

The room refrigerator no working, water running from sink and shower is terrible slow, no room cleaning and refill with towels at all. Reception was AI, keep asking without help, spent too much time for check in.

Great front desk staff but…

I was pleased when I asked to be on the first floor and they accommodated me. Not so sure about having someone on a computer screen helping me. There were a couple of glitches, i.e. almost charged me over $1,000 for a 1 night stay and once I got into my room, people tried to get in, as they booked 2 other people into my room… all of this was fixed, just glitches to the checkin process!

Bring ear plugs. The walls and ceilings are paper thin. I could hear the conversation of the men staying in the room above us almost word for word at 2am while praying for sleep. Stayed here last year without our dog and we got a free upgrade and a nice room on the top floor. Brought our little dog this time and they charged $35 extra per day and gave us a crappy room on the 1st floor. No one is physically present at the front desk - they are Zooming in or whatever from somewhere else over a screen. If you’re okay with the bare minimum and lots of noise from all around, stay here.

This is a very no-frills hotel, but that was all I needed, and it was great for that. Everything in the room was clean and worked well -- good coffee pods, even. The hotel is really convenient to San Mateo, which has a hopping downtown area with lots of restaurants.

Motel not Hotel

First off, this is a motel not a hotel. There were some renovations which made it ok, but the bathroom was not fully remodeled, and it had a dirty floor, floorboards and spots on the ceiling. No shower door just a flimsy curtain. Not in a great area, i.e., a lot of traffic and other loud noises. The AC/Heating unit was so loud you couldn't watch TV at a reasonable sound level. The refrigerator leaked during our multiple day stay. When I relayed this to the front office, there was only a kiosk with someone on a computer screen to talk to (same as when my husband checked in). I was told maintenance would come to check it out but it was not fixed, so during our stay, we had to use towels under the refrigerator and along the back of the unit to keep the leaking isolated. I chose what I thought was a hotel based on reasonable cost and reviews, but unfortunately I found a partly remodeled motel that had issues. I did not find the savings worth it nor were the reviews anywhere near what we experienced.

Our stay at Catrina "hotel"

We stayed here because we thought it seemed like a nice and chic hotel to stay at, but were surprised that it was more like a motel. There are no elevators to get you to the second floor if you are disabled or need it. It wasn't too bad for me since my husband carried our one luggage upstairs, but it would be a few trips up and down for families or disabled persons with multiple luggagies. The check in process is through a lobby building where they had technical difficulties for about 10 minutes. The check in is with a real person through a virtual session on a kiosk. They ask you to scan the ID and confirm the details of your stay. Not too bad for a check in process especially considering we checked in after 11pm. Anyhow, we got to our room and it's a small room, straight-to-the-point bedroom with closet space, long desk/drawer space with TV on top, fridge under, and a separate bathroom. There was a hole on the wall, like someone punched it, next to the bathroom. The bathroom floor was dirty, the faucet handle broke after two uses, the sink was clogged, the desk where the TV was had old cup marks, there were hair in the towels, the walls were pretty thin and you could hear some neighbors at midnight and throughout the night, and the AC/heater unit was boomingly loud whenever it started up automatically. In the end, I wouldn't stay here again unless there was an event I needed to attend and it's the last nearby choice that's "not" a motel.

You get what you pay for.

This is basically a motel. Room was clean but smelled like cheap cleaning product. It is next to a very busy street so it never got quiet at night. Also the heating unit was very noisy. Neighborhood is not the best. Basically a cheap stay but you get what you pay for. Not a true bargain.

Boutique-tech Hotel with drinks on the side

This was a great boutique-tech hotel. There was no in person staff to greet me but they did have a person on screen to help check me in, and scan my ID. It was much easier than I thought it was going to be and got a code for my room instead of a key. The room was comfy and the hotel is super cute. If you're missing a hotel bar you can head 3 doors down to the right to Route 92 Sports Bar and hang out with the locals for cocktails.
