Holidays To San Felipe
When your next holiday comes around, catch a wave to San Felipe in seaside Baja California.
Once a popular spring break destination for the Pacific Coast student crowd, San Felipe has achieved the perfect balance of partying and good clean fun in the sun, and you can spend your San Felipe holiday kicking back at the beach, surfing some sand dunes and witnessing some glorious sunrises.
In case you were doodling waves and tacos all over your notebook in geography class, Baja isn’t in the modern-day state of California at all—it’s a warm, breezy state in northwest Mexico. So book one of our cheap San Felipe packages and say “Hasta luego” to your hometown!
Things to Do in Felipe
On the west coast of the Gulf of California, there’s plenty fish in the sea—the Sea of Cortez to be specific—so spend your holiday in San Felipe out on the water reeling in the catch of the day. Head down to the jetty—Malecón San Felipe—and hire a local fishing tour to take you out for a day.
Would you rather not see the fish until it’s in your taco? Skip the charter fishing and float on over to South Beach, a long, quiet strand of golden sand. You won’t have to work at drying off on your way to an off-road vehicle ride through Cañon Cola del Diablo, which means “Devil’s Tail Canyon” in English, so wear a helmet, mate.
You’ll be kicking up some dust once you’re in the canyon, but you’ve gotta get there first. Pick up one of Wotif’s San Felipe car rental deals on your way out of town.
Shopping, Dining & Nightlife
Small-town vibes are part of San Felipe’s charm, so don’t expect a modern shopping mall in this neck of the desert. Instead, go on a treasure hunt through the village market. You’ll find a little of everything, from local produce to beachwear and handmade tapestries.
The chefs of San Felipe are masters of the surf and turf, so say “sí” to the grilled fish and ceviche—lime and seafood salad. There’s a rumour that fish tacos were first invented here. We’re not sure if that’s true, but if they weren’t invented in San Felipe, they still taste delicious! Battered and fried or marinated and grilled, there’s nothing like a savoury fish fillet wrapped in a warm tortilla.
The nightlife on this side of the devil’s tail doesn’t quit until it’s met by a gorgeous sunrise. For drinks, clubs and heaps of good eating, check out the neighbourhood around the Malecón. Live music sways through the streets and the dance floors sizzle like the fajitas you can eat right off the grill. Save your travel cash with Wotif’s awesome San Felipe packages and keep your tab open.

San Felipe Beach Hotel
We were there for a quick overnight stop on drive home. Access to beach was good, unfortunately restaurant was closed. There are hammocks but they are being supported by what looked like rusted beams. Great location and fine for our overnight stay, although a bit pricey.
