Location & staff excellent (but noisy hotel)

Unfortunately we had a mixed experience during our 4 night stay at The Horton. Positives: staff (particularly victor), the location is amazing (walking distance to pretty much everything), cleanliness, hotel bar, WiFi Negatives: possibly the noisiest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Staff hoovering the courtyard first thing in the morning (which amplifies the sound), creaky floorboards in which it sounds like the person upstairs is in your room with you. And if you are unluckily enough to have someone who doesn’t sleep in the room above, and it sounds like they are trying to increase their step count for 9 hours overnight, you will have an extremely sleep deprived night!

We arrived very early (noonish) from the airport and were expecting to wait for our room. They quickly checked us in and we were in our room within 10 minutes of arriving. Everyone was very nice and helpful. The grounds are beautiful and interesting to walk through. Great history of the hotel. Found everything to be immaculate. Close to Petco park which is why we were there. We found a great little place for breakfast (Cafe 222) just a few short blocks away and a Ralph’s a couple blocks further. They also give you one coupon per person for a drink at their bar and 20% off their restaurant. I would not hesitate to stay here again. Thank you for your hospitality.

Beautiful historic building. Absolutely loved the courtyard area, especially at night. Bed was very comfortable & having a fireplace in the room was a cozy touch. Cashed in our complimentary drinks tickets at the onsite bar. Very nice bar & dining area, drinks were good, service was slow though. Would definitely stay at this location again.

The property while a little dated had some modern amenities while still holding on to it's historical charm. It is very convenient to transportation, walkable, restaurants in the Gaslamp Quarters and Petco Park, as well as the convention center. There is an Old Town Trolley stop right outside of the hotel. The courtyard has some southern charm reminiscent of NOLA or Charlotte. The staff and security were very nice and helpful. Would recommend.

The proximity to the convention center was great. I really appreciated that it was located on a quieter street, so it was not loud inside the room. Certainly a good consideration for my next trip when I’m around the Gaslamp District.

Couples get away

Hotel check in and out were easy with pleasant staff. We stayed in a courtyard balcony room. The view was beautiful, but the courtyard did echo and voices did carry. The room was comfortable and clean. Shower pressure was good, but the sink pressure was low. Overall a great location and hotel. Would return for sure.
