Set over 3 floors the house offers a large well equipped kitchen opening into a dining room with an open fire, a large lounge, with open fire and a balcony overlooking the river.
The house has been decorated and furnished to an exceptionally high standard, having been modernised and renovated in early 2016, with a new kitchen, bathrooms and total redecoration, offering luxury and comfort in a beautiful setting, we have given a great deal of thought to your stay.
The garden leads directly onto the river Charente and we are happy to leave our canoes and kayaks at the house for your use for the duration of your stay.
For watersport enthusiasts the area is ideal, in addition to the canoes and kayaks you can hire a boat and explore the river, sail up to Port d'envaux stop for lunch and then continue to Taillebourg where you can try your hand at Water Skiing and Wakeboarding.

Being situated on the edge of the old market town of Saint Savinien we are within a short walk of bars, restaurants, shops, art galleries and not forgetting of course the magnificent river Charente.

We are fortunate to have so many things to do and places to visit locally to us, the following are just a few examples;

Horse riding at our local stables - Les 3 Allures

Canoeing and Kayaking

Water skiing locally

Hire a boat from Les Canotiers in St Savinien, from and hour to a full day, take a picnic and explore this beautiful river.

Cycling, bike hire available locally, cycle along the Charente and enjoy our beautiful countryside

Chateaux, Roche Courban, Panloy, Crazannes (the setting for Puss in Boots)!

A little further afield, Aquarium at La Rochelle, this is one of the largest Aquariums in Europe and despite living here for 15 years we still visit every year!

Zoo La Palmyre

Puy de Fou, well worth the trip, plan your day and prepare to be amazed.

We are close to the stunning Atlantic coast and less than 30 minutes to the nearest beach and with over 100 miles of breathtaking coast line we are spoilt for choice.

Absolutly stunning property located in a quiet town, the pictures do not do the property justice exteamly large rooms adequate for a large amount of people, we spent 2 weeks in the property and were able to explore multiple locations all within 30 to 40 min drive away, and if you dont feel like driving there is a train station 2 minutes away allowing you to get around, all of the rooms have been carefully thought about keeping with the the age of the property, this has been one of the best places we have stayed in in some years and i would deffinatly recommend to other thinking of visiting

Lovely house with plenty of space and loads of character.

We had a lovely stay, the house is well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Pretty garden just over the road - beware of midges in the evening! St Savinien is a great base to explore the area with so many beautiful places to visit.

Gracious home in a great village

The hosts are very nice and the house itself is gracious. Tall ceilings and well proportioned rooms, with beautiful details like the tiles and ceiling medallions. The kitchen is well laid out and well stocked. Showers and bath have plenty of water pressure and very hot water. The village setting is great, especially with the river. Good walks right on your door and convenient to many places to explore.

Beautiful Home

We spent a week at this fabulous property and enjoyed every minute. It was a relaxing and tranquil setting. The garden leading to the river was amazing ,was just able to fish from the bank (caught a 22lb carp on sweet corn ) but be warned the mosquitos are ferocious, so a quality misquote spray is required But overall a fabulous experience and will be returning.

Saint Sevinien

A very beautiful, sympathetically updated house of character. this type of property has grandeur and all the little foibles and quirks of an old house. Creaky floors and original window fittings, some which open, some which might not. A three story house with an old winding wooden staircase, and wooden floors throughout, we did get a few splinters ! Modern bathrooms a plenty, and a good well equipped modern kitchen. Loads of bedroom and bathroom space, and lots of added things such as board games, fans, hairdryer etc. The lounge was lovely and looked out onto the river with a relaxed bright feel to it. Huge dining table great for a big family and sharing food. We must not forget the canoes, life jackets and large floats which were in the garage for our use. The girls had the best time playing in those. We loved our stay in this beautiful part of France and spent a lot of time either on, or in the river with the children. The owners were helpful and there when needed. Only one small thing would be to maybe invest in updating the garden area, and if there was a small deck with a way of accessing the river more easily from the garden it would have been perfect for us. Regardless, we loved our stay and will be back.

Wonderful house in lovely surroundings

Lovely old French townhouse in pretty Saint Savinien. We had a relaxing time - swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding on the river. The house was perfect for us - the downstairs bedroom was cooler in the heat but the upstairs main bedroom is so pretty and the bath overlooking the river wonderful. We loved the riverside garden but wouldn’t have found it easy with younger children. Would also have benefited from some easier access to the river - a little jetty maybe. Small town perfect for our needs - boulangerie near the town bridge fantastic/ Bar barrage good for low key food. Île d’oleron has lovely beaches on west coast. All in all a great base for holiday. Thank you

A beautiful house in a lovely area

We were very happy with the house which was beautiful, well furnished and comfortable. The garden on the river Charente was well shaded by a very large weeping willow and it was a lovely cool and relaxing place to be on our 2 record hot days (40 degrees.) We could use the owners' canoes and the children, aged 12 and 14 loved it. The garden was at the front of the house and across a small quiet one- way street. We dealt mostly with Debbie in the admin of renting the property. She was very efficient and also helped us to postpone our holiday twice (Covid) at no extra cost so we finally had our 2020 holiday in 2022! When the gas canister for the kitchen stove ran out of gas we phoned Debbie and Debbie's husband Alan came out immediately to fit a new canister. Amazingly fast service! So to sum up we were very pleased with our stay in St Savinien.

Beautiful house and town with all the amenities

My family and I stayed in this lovely home for 3 weeks. Having morning coffee on the balcony over looking the river and gardens is what I miss most about my mornings... Dinners under the Willow tree, movies next door, lovely Chateaus and Sculpture park just a few km away. We so enjoyed our time in Saint Savinien. I would absolutely stay again.

Great house in great location.

Superb house in great location, with lovely front garden and very good hosts as and when needed. Being picky, outside furniture could do with a bit of updating and size of cooking pots for number of guests were a bit small. Also unaware of shared balcony and garden. However we had a wonderful holiday and would certainly recommend and definitely stay here again.

Summer break

First break in 3 years so really needed it. Location of house in town was superb. The house itself is full of character and history . We had an issue with a water tank but Alan the owner was straight on it and we only had to wait a few days to get it sorted. Family were comfy and brother in law caught a fish from the garden so made his day. Well worth a visit and would go back .

A fantastic property

We stayed for the half term in october and it was wonderful, after coming to France for nearly 10 years we have always rented a large farmhouse, however when we found this we thought it looked great with the added addition of the river Charente opposite the property. We canoed everyday along with us taking our own Paddleboards. Beautifully decorated and very clean. Highly Recommended.

Beautiful home

This was our first time using HomeAway and certainly won’t be our last! The whole process was efficient and easy and the communication with the owners was superb. The property is in a fantastic location on the river and it is big and spacious with beautiful furniture and fittings. There are plenty of utensils and equipment and the kitchens and bathrooms are beautifully decorated. The garden is so lovely under the tree by the river and we used the BBQ a few times. The town has a couple of bakeries and the super U is 5 minute drive away. Lots of places to visit locally and things to do and an hour from some lovely beaches. We enjoyed 5 lovely days in St Savinien and would thoroughly recommend it as a base but also a great home to spend time at too!

A property with everything and more...

We really felt at home and comfortable in this house. The rooms are very large with high ceilings which makes you feel like you are living in a vast space. The modern, well-stocked kitchen includes high quality appliances. Bathrooms are also very modern and bright. The decor is subdued and in good taste. We appreciated the period furniture which goes so well with the overall look. The recent renovation is excellent. The pleasant owners, Debbie and Alan, who live nearby, quickly responded to any of our questions or concerns in a very helpful manner. The garden area on the Charente river was peaceful and relaxing. We had delightful meals outdoors here. Saint Savinien is a friendly, quaint town with shops and stores for all our needs. We enjoyed walking around the town and area. The train station is an convenient five minute walk away. We took the train to Rochefort and Saintes - an easy, pleasant way to travel. There are many good to excellent restaurants nearby. We liked everything about this property so well - the house, the owners. the town and area that we could have stayed longer.

Wonderful holiday in fabulous setting.

The house and garden are both charming, the photographs on the website are even better in real life. Debbie, Alan and Jack are great hosts and could not have been more helpful, even though the fishing advice didn't lead to any fish getting caught. Thank you for a holiday we will remember fondly.

Fantastic House - highly recommended

The photos do not do this wonderful property justice. It's elegant with a clever combination of period pieces and high end bathrooms and kitchen. Spacious so if you are a couple of families there is ample opportunity for privacy yet you can all be together round the large kitchen table, on the squishy sofas or out in the garden, by the river enjoying the BBQ. An ideal base with chateaux on the doorstep, interesting towns, an hour from beautiful beaches - perfect. The village has all the amenities you need - small shops, boulangeries, traiteurs (deli), bars, restaurants and a great supermarket just up the road. Communication from Debbie from booking onwards was great and her warm welcome just what we needed after a long drive. Highly recommended and you can book with confidence.
