Accommodation In Riviera delle Palme
Savona is an often-overlooked Italian city with stacks of charm and a surprising amount of fascinating activities. With the port in front and the mountains behind it, it has a fine medieval fortress, a Baroque cathedral, a second Sistine Chapel and a couple of Picassos too. Along with art lovers, lovers of coffee and seaside views will also find plenty to like about Savona. Book your Savona hotel with us.
Things to see and do
Constructed in 1952, Priamar Fortress sits on a hill above the port. Originally a prison, it now houses Savona’s archaeological museum, filled with Bronze Age, Byzantine and other artifacts. The Savona Cathedral is a 16th century baroque cathedral, and behind it you’ll find the other Sistine Chapel. It was built by the same Pope who built the one in The Vatican City and intended to be a tomb for his parents.
Pinacoteca Civica is an art museum with a collection of religious paintings and a couple of works by the famous Pablo Picasso.
And when you just need to relax, hit the beach or go for a hike in the hills. Maybe you’d even be keen to tackle the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri, a hiking trek which trails 400km on top of the Ligurian hilltops.
Shopping and dining
To shop in Savona, visit one of the antique markets or follow the streets for clothing stores and other boutiques. If you love pizza and seafood, you’ll love Savona’s dining, which offers a great selection of both along with vegetarian and traditional Italian.
