Xmas stay

Positives: Clean room. Strong and hot shower. Everything worked I.e TV, remote control, lamps etc. Breakfast buffet was very good. Parking is free on site and close to hotel entrance. Negatives: No staff were on site when we arrived at 17:00. No easy information available to help us check in. I had to ask one of the servers in the restaurant to translate a German note left on reception desk - which told me to ring a number to check in. So I had to make an international telephone call to then be told our room is unlocked, with the room key inside the room. There was zero information about our stay. Pillows were large but uncomfortable. Toilet in the bathroom in the room was continuously noisy/draining without flushing. Interior is very dated with obvious sign of wear and tear. No clear information if breakfast was included in our room fee and again, in the morning, no one was at the desk at 8am. So I asked another guest about breakfast rules and was confidently told it was included. So we ate breakfast, then a woman appeared on the desk and in a very flustered and rude tone informed me I had to pay 27 euros for breakfast. I have no problem paying for the food, but this information needs to be readily available to guests and more staff presence and communication would solve this and the check-in problems ensure no further confusion with future guests. The cost did not seem fair for the hotel room, which felt much more like a hostel, than a hotel.

Road weary and a bit confused I was greeted warmly, sorted out, as to local bank machines and my request to change rooms. The bar was and lacking my favorite predinner whiskey, the service made up for that. A very nicely prepared pepper steak, perfectly prepared veggies and a nice red wine, put me to bed. Rooms were adequate and clean. A very nice breakfast sped me on my way in the morn.

Historic but could be updated

Having found the hotel (confusing one-way system in the town especially in the dark and no sign to the hotel parking area) the welcome was good although the receptionist had little English. Access to the rooms is via an stairway (no lift) and the room itself was accessed through a communal sitting area and was a little cramped. Hotel restaurant was Italian menu based, good and clearly popular locally. Good range of breakfast elements.

Convenient location 5 mins walk from the station

Nice hotel with some interesting features. Basic room but spacious, clean and newly refurbished. Very small bathroom in my room, but fine, although the shower cubicle was quite shabby although clean. Large common room with games etc. which might be fun if travelling with a group. Bar and restaurant downstairs looked nice but wasn't able to try as it's closed on tuesdays (as are many places in town). Good breakfast with lots of different things available. Friendly staff. Convenient location – 5 min walk to town centre, 5 min walk to the train station. Quiet, no traffic noise in my room which was facing the courtyard. Would stay here again.

Disappointment

The positive: very friendly personnel, good location, parking, breakfast OK, historic building. This is a hotel in need of total renovation bringing it up-to-date, I would not recommend to anyone at the price level we paid. Strong smell of mold in the tiny bathroom, wall to wall carpets really old, dirty and smelly. Clean sheets but really old dirty duvets. No ventilation expect open windows, in which case the noise from trains and traffic disturb your sleep.
