Nice hotel close to the beach

Pros: The pool, proximity to beach, friendly staff, tropical gardens, private, peaceful
Cons: Maybe having a washing machine on sight that we could use - would be happy to pay for this usage.
Location: Great restaurants within walking distance. Cafe, icecream shop, mini supermarket and petrol station right next door. Beach accross road.
A great little hotel which is directly accross the road from a beautiful white sandy beach. The hotel is small and gives you a chance to relax without having lots of people around. Awesome pool which was very popular with all the guests, we were in there alot when it was hot! Lovely tropical gardens surround the hotel and this makes it completely private from the road. Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and responded to any requests we had promptly. We arrived on a late flight and our room was already for us to immediately sleep. They had also put together a yummy fruit platter for breakfast for us.

Perfect location for a relaxing beach holiday

Loved my stay. Everything was sorted for my late arrival, welcomed by a plate of fresh sluced fruit in the fridge. The location is ideal for snorkelling, with the marine reserve about one kilometre to the east. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Good choice in terms of location and quality of self-catering accommodation.

Absolute bargain, a stones throw from the beach.

Pros: Everything. Beautiful gardens and pool area with gas BBQ. Calm, quiet and close to the beach. Simple clean white paint. Genuinely chilled out.
Cons: A spa pool would be nice
Location: The snorkeling (Jane told us where to go) is amazing. FOOD! Restaurants, fish and chips even the $5 burgers, all awesome.
The black pearl is a motel style gem on the sunset side of Rarotonga. It is across the road from the beach, literally a stones throw from white sand heaven. Because it is motel style we had a twin gas cooker, decent size refrigerator, microwave, kettle, toaster, pots, pans cutlery tea towels etc. I didn't have to go out and find breakfast every morning. Get up late and rattle up whatever you fancy, perfect. (Local supermarkets have loads) They provide bath towel and beach towels. They have rock shoes you can borrow and masks and snorkels and even umbrellas. You really could turn up in your shorts and jandels. Jane gave flawless advice on the best places to eat and the bar down the road (5 minutes on foot, along the beach) is rated by CNN as No. 3 in the world for beach sunset bars. The small staff are genuinely lovely (though all the people we meet were friendly and chilled). Its not the Ritz but you knew that from the price. It is however an absolute bargain. Its not party central either. Its a fantastic place for stressed out grown ups to chill out, unwind, de-stress... No reason not to take kids but the pool (like all of them there) in not fenced. If you like to sleep in or like sunsets, stay on the west side. It was also sheltered from the wind. It was blowing the whole time we were there and the black pearl was calm and warm. I would thoroughly recommend the black pearl to my friends and family. I wouldn't bother to stay anywhere else.

Clean and nicely appointed with friendly staff!

Pros: Everything.
We stayed at the Black Pearl for one night only and were pleasantly surprised. We expected older fittings etc like most Cook Islands accommodation but it was decorated beautifully and freshly painted so very clean and bright. It was roomy and the shower deliciously hot which was wonderful after a week of cold 'solar heated' showers on Aitutaki. And extra unexpected and most appreciated surprise was the delightful fruit platter we discovered in our fridge. We didn't use the pool as we were due to fly the next day and didn't want wet washing but saw parents relaxing whilst their children swam. The beach is just a stone's throw away and very pretty. Jane and her lovely staff were most helpful and very friendly. I'd recommend The Black Pearl to all. We'll be back :)

Hayley I am so glad we gave you a pleasant surprise! A great deal of effort has gone into refreshing the decor to be a little different and anything but bland. Many properties no longer accept children preferring to be adults only - whereas we welcome families and have the perfect setting for fun times by the pool, or an evening BBQ..and the beach across the road is a bonus. I look forward to welcoming you back to The Black Pearl very soon. Kind regards Jane Barclay
