The employee on duty when I checked out a little late was friendly, polite, respectful, professional and very understanding, which is no longer a common experience at South Dakota hotels, unfortunately. At other hotels in Rapid City, employees will literally groan, sigh heavily and become noticeably upset when I request a late checkout. So, all of my gratitude to this property!

The stay was good! Everything was great until we were locked out of the hotel as they lock the doors at 11pm, we had just gotten back around 1am, there was a phone that my friend dialed for the front desk, we were in the cold for about 10ish minutes with no staff, I called from my personal phone and still no answer from the staff. Luckily, my friend found another way in, and we were able to get in from freezing outside, we went to the front desk and still nobody was there. I see why there's a rule for closing the doors at 11pm but it isn't really a good choice considering the lack of staff at night, what if there was late check-ins? What if it's below freezing outside and the guests freeze? Or a more serious thing could've happened to guests especially female guests. I would've probably left a good review if me and my friend weren't out in the cold for 10ish minutes calling the hotel repeatedly with no staff on sight.

This is an older property and definitely a bit worn around the edges. For instance, the bathroom in our room had to be the original work. But the place is clean and represents an excellent value. Furthermore, the rooms are quite spacious and the breakfast was surprisingly good. For the price, we were most satisfied.
