Pro's: Excellent breakfast. Great that they have a family pool and adult only pool. Arranged for transportation into town at a reasonable price. We had booked a room with a "private pool" but we couldn't use it at night because of the mosquitoes -- it was nice for a late afternoon dip though with a cocktail. Con's: location is not very convenient for walking up hill to town and the private trail to the beach is available, but the beach below is nothing special. Hotel is on a steep hill, that they have a golf cart shuttle to take you from your room to the lobby. I would not recommend for people with mobility issues Overall, if I went again to the area the question is would I stay here again, and the answer is no, hence me 2 star rating.

We had a fantastic stay at Shana! The service was outstanding—from advance planning, arrival, tour scheduling, and meals at the restaurant—the staff went above and beyond. Their attentiveness and professionalism set this hotel apart. The location is really great too. We enjoyed the beach access and convenience to Manuel Antonio Nat'l Park and Ziplining Tour. I’ll definitely be returning!

What we enjoyed: Seeing a troupe of squirrel monkeys and a couple of capuchin monkeys on the property The steep walk up and down the property The steep walk to and from the beach We did not enjoy the following: Dated furnishings in room A mediocre breakfast buffet compared to all others we enjoyed in Costa Rica; mediocre is probably an overstatement The very grumpy male towel attendant (all 3 days) The paper-thin door to the adjoining room that allowed the noise of 3 teenage girls to carry loudly The restrictive Happy Hour guidelines The limited safe parking spaces as upper curbside parking exposed our vehicle to tight conditions Shana by the Beach has ZERO amenities at the BEACH; instead "hawkers" argue with each other over who is going to rent you a $20 beach chair The beach surf area is incredibly rocky and shallow Note: If you have a car, there is a GREAT public beach just 2 km toward Manual Antonio. Access is just east of Karahe Restaurant parking.

Spent 300 per night. The location is on a cliff, so it’s hell of a drive to get in and out of the area (if you wanna go to the national park or downtown). when we first arrived, the receptionist spent 3 minutes going over the layover of the resort and promised a guided tour will be done with a golf cart, but didn’t happen. When got to the room, the curtain didn’t close and was obviously missing a piece. Called the front desk, who said someone will be over in 10 minutes. Waited 15 minutes for someone to get there, who took a look and said will be back in 5 minutes, and ofc he didn’t come back in time. Obviously I didn’t wanna waste time waiting for them, so I went to the front desk physically, which btw, is also a hell of a hike uphill, the lady told me that she’s working on a solution, but no details and timeline. So I decided to explore the beach, while they are working on a “solution”, meanwhile we’ve already wasted 40 minutes. When we came back from the beach, another 45 minutes later, they were in our room fixing, along with a manager, who basically told us to soilder through the night and will replace a new one next day. And she didn’t mention anything like “I’m sorry” or “apologies.” To make the matter worse, we got locked out twice because they failed to change the batteries. The breakfast is also terrible, linens are dirty and old, there’s no sound isolation, and useless staff. Overall, absolute nightmare and so not worth the money

4/5 that could have been 5/5 if they had only...

The rooms, the pool, and the restaurant all deserve 5/5 stars. So does their guest services team who helped us book a couple of fun adventures (surfing lessons and a tour of Manual Antonio National Park). That said, overall I'm giving 4/5 stars because of a few misses on service: 1) we booked two rooms via hotels.com under the same reservation and the hotel staff didn't think to put our rooms near each other. Not even in the same building, which was inconvenient for our family of 6. They did their best to get us closer by the second day, which I appreciated, and which helps them retain 4/5 stars. Maybe I didn't add a note in my reservation requesting they hold rooms near each other, but IMHO I shouldn't have to; 2) they never found time to make up our room. We were there two nights, and they never knocked or anything. We even requested they do it while we went out, but nothing. Part of the reason we do hotel/resorts is to have our rooms serviced each day. And 3) they asked if I'd like to open a tab with the hotel and then it didn't seem to work at the restaurant and they wanted my signature at checkout as well instead of just letting us leave the keys in our room and go. That makes me sound lazy, and frankly, I'm looking for a 5/5 hotel to do everything in their power to let me be as lazy as I'd like to be. We had a great time, and we'd probably go back. But it wasn't a slam dunk, which it could have been if they were slightly more customer experience obsessed.

It was a very unique property with monkeys seen daily . Buffet breakfast was great with multiple options . William the guest service person was super helpful and willing to assist with all our excursions and transportation needs . The staff was amazing and always smiling and accommodating. Unfortunately our room was dated with appliances that did not function properly, the counter around the bathroom sink was broken and the taps very loose. Also the toilet was held to the floor with only one nut and appeared to be leaking . The toilet barely flushed as well .

Love this place

This is my second time visiting Manuel Antonio. Amazing property and employees. We were always greeted with a smile. The food was very good and when you stay there you receive a 15% discount on food and drinks. They gave you a tour of the property and provided important information upon check in. The only problem I had was the key cards were disabled twice during my stay (I did not keep them near electronics) I would definitely recommend this property!!

Very nice hotel with close access to the beach, where you can rent chairs, kayaks, and snorkel. It is a very steep walk up the hill to the main road where there are several restaurants, coffee shop, and supermarket. Guest services arranged for our tours to Manuel Antonio, making planning excursions easy.

Very nice location, With access to a semi private beach. Overall, this is a 3 1/2 star resort. We struggled a bit with Service at the pool. The continental breakfast was more than I expected and very nice. Staff was very friendly. ultimately, Costa Rica has become rather expensive.

Great hotel I will be back. My only complaint was the air conditioner. I feel like they need another. One for the size of the room was very hard to get the temperature down to a normal range. The staff are amazing and it's in a beautiful location. I will be back.
