We loved the swim up room and the pools were ok. A little small for a resort this big. However most people don’t go to the Caribbean for pools, they go to be able to see and swim in its beautiful warm waters. From the first day we arrived there we were not able to go into the water as there was a red flag meaning not safe to swim. We told this was because there was a storm out to sea that was making it very rough. Well the red flag never came down and no one was able to swim in the ocean the whole time we were there. This was a big disappointment because that’s one of the main reasons we went there. In hind sight it is my fault because I should’ve researched it better when making the reservation. This hotel is the most northern hotel and the last hotel in a chain of several hotels on the coast. Because of where it is located the only time you can swim there is very limited through out the year. I have been to a few other hotels along that coast and never saw a red flag and was always able to swim in the ocean at those places. I feel the fact that you can’t swim in the ocean there because of how rough the surf is there should be disclosed on all advertisements for this hotel and it’s not. Plain and simple you can’t swim in the ocean there. If I had known that I would not have stayed there. That said the resort is very nice and the staff seem to go out of their way to serve you. For this reason I would rate this hotel as a 3-4 star place.

We loved everything about our stay. The property was beautiful, quiet, and clean. The staff was very good. The ONLY disappointment was the red flag being up every day. We couldn’t swim in the ocean. Other than that, it was wonderful. Multiple pools.

Subpar at best. Ambiance: The resort is pretty, clean, quiet and relaxing. Our room in building 12 was gorgeous, with a private plunge pool and hot tub; worth the expense. However, it was a very long walk from restaurants, leisure, and lobby. Bring comfortable shoes. Strange layout, but signage and map are helpful. The beach is stunning, though very windy at all times of the day (not sure if this is year round, but this is April). Public pools were adequate. The gym was also adequate. Service: Service was two star, with only a few exceptions of workers who were helpful and pleasant at concierge, front desk/reception. (Though we did not receive a proper tour.) Otherwise, inattentive and almost begrudging service, especially waiters. They were predominantly socially awkward, and super slow, like they’re following a script, especially at The Grill and Las Olas. Exceptions include Dimitrio at Oregon, who knew what he was doing, and was polite and respectful. Ledelkis at the Kitchen Table was super sweet, welcoming, attentive and quick, even when busy. Spa service is expensive, but great massages, sauna, and hydrotherapy. The reception lady (Cassandra) seemed robotic and on script, but sort of polite nonetheless. Food and beverage: The food was edible, but not amazing. Lots of variety, so you’ll find something you like. The breakfast buffet was fine, nothing remarkable. The resort runs parallel to the ocean with a lazy river type pool in between. There is a breeze and a view from everywhere. The resort and the pool are so spread out that it’s never crowded or noisy. There are options to be at the beach, at the fun and active end of the pool or the quiet, walk in end of the pool. The layout and plantings are just beautiful. The staff coming around the pool with food and drink offerings are fantastic. Second visit here after trying another resort and returning. Will return next year as well. Thank you.

I will not go back. Food quality was poor, selection was poor. Room was humid and wet. Told them the 1st.night and they asked me 3days later if I wanted to move. I was leaving the next day. It’s a 6 on 1-10. Very unhappy. They messed up my meal 4 times in 3 night. It’s not an excellence resort it’s an average. I spoke to the manager and being honest I said you should fire the manager in charge of the food service. They even offered me credit to come again and I said I doubt I will even with a credit. 6 on 1-10 at best and I’m very fair. I don’t complain unless it’s bad .. sorry I will not return to there or other properties they have. Ohh and I ordered room service 2 morning and both they messed up simple coffee and fruit request.

The property was great. We got married here and it was beautiful. This resort is a chill relaxing resort. It’s calm and meant for couples that want to get away from it all. Not really a party resort but they do have some night life available. All stuff closes around 12-1 am so everyone can relax if they wish. I did like this aspect while I was there and was able to get some rest. They do have a 24/7 room service menu which was great. Definitely get the chocolate cake it’s so good. We loved all the activities the resort had to offer and they had available things todo off resort if you wanted to visit the island and at point during your stay. I would definitely come here again. The food was amazing, and the alcohol was never empty. They do over pooring just an fyi so if your not into alcohol to much make sure to tell them. The drinks are hella strong! Definitely recommend this place for a nice quiet getaway. The spa was definitely amazing so definitely recommend going there at some point during your stay.

Disappointed. Have been to two other Excellence resorts in Mexico, which are far superior in everything. Room here was outdated. No dressers to put your clothes in which I found shocking!! Room service was not good. Food was undercooked quite often. Was a language barrier causing us not to get what we requested a lot of the time. Property was too busy. Restaurants too busy making service very, very slow. Seats all around pool were taken by 110:30/1:00 am and if you came later, you couldn't get one. People horded them for the entire day, often leaving the space for hours and coming back later. They didn't even start to clean pool until after it opened. Concierge tried to upgrade us to Club experience but was total rip off. We weren't even moved to the club side of property. He told us he ordered something special to the room however, when we got up, there was nothing! Eventually did receive fruit (3 pieces and some champagne) after we complained. Was just disappointed with the Excellence experience here. Expected better because of the name. On a good note, bar service on beach very good. French restaurant excellent food and excellent service. Beach was clean and beautiful as was the property. Best part of vacation was our experience at the spa!!!

The property was immaculate. The staff worked tirelessly to maintain the grounds and the landscaping, sometimes to our entertainment. Everyone was as nice as can be. It was unfortunate the waters were rough during our stay, but that is no one's fault. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
