Check in was a big surprise for us. It was pouring rain and blowing a gale as the property is absolute beach front. After following signs to reception, you get out of your warm dry car, walk up steep and wet slippery stairs in howling rain. I did ask if I'd come into the front of the hotel, which I had. Apparently, this is normal. I was wet, cold and very disgruntled. The scenic hotel in Punakaiki is a very peaceful and relaxing place to stay....Just don't try to check in it out in the driving rain.

Room was spacious, clean & well presented. Bed was a bit soft, however comfortable (only stayed for 1 night) and there was plenty of parking available. View from the room across the beach was lovely.

Deluxe ocean view suite had a wonderful view of the beach but lacked some extra furnishings in the room itself. Bathroom needs some minor upgrading but the accommodation was clean & quiet with a comfortable KS bed. Kitchenette has no oven or cooktop. Dinner in the restaurant was very good.

The reception staff were friendly and helpful, the bar, kitchen & wait staff were accommodating on our late arrival, 8 pm. The restaurant staff were friendly and the restaurants bar menu, albeit limited, was creative, well prepared and fresh. The only bummer, the hotel staff left the curtains to our double queen oceanview open all afternoon, so when we arrived at 8 pm, on a sunny day, the beautiful panoramic view made the room a hot house. The room has no air conditioning and there was only a small fan and little options for fresh air, given only one functioning window Oceanside and one small bathroom window. The hotel should invest in small air conditioning and heating splits for each room to avoid such unpleasant hot rooms. The room finally cooled down enough to sleep at 10-11 pm.

Location of the hotel is great however the hotel is a bit old and need better maintenance. Also there are very limited options for food and the only restaurant and bar menu is very limited and so expensive.
