There was no stay. We arrived and found a woman has been living in the house for 3 years. She has had other VRBO users come to check into her house, and said she notified the property owners asking them to take down the listing. I can understand if this was the first time a mixup like this had happened - but per the resident I was the fourth to try to check into her home. Why doesn’t VRBO have checks in place for this? This led to a significant disruption to my vacation plans, and cost me money. I was told the case would be escalated but I have not heard from anyone, and VRBO has not covered the cost of my rental the night we discovered the place we rented was not available. So disappointing.

We were scammed.

We reserved this property and paid for it in April for our stay mid June. We reached out to the owner several times with no response regarding our check in details. We arrived at the property at check in time to find that the house is a permanent residence and not rented out as a vacation rental. We had to find last minute lodging for 6 people.
