Our July 2025 stay at the Waring House left a lot to be desired. We have tried to contact the property privately to resolve our concerns but haven’t heard back despite 3 attempts to contact the property. Upon arrival, we were greeted by unenthusiastic reception staff. Despite branding itself as a “resort” we quickly realized it was anything but. The staff were confused when we requested ice because there was no ice maker in our building or fridge in our room. We felt like we were an inconvenience the few times we requested assistance. We immediately noticed our room in the House Next Door building was damp and musty, with the carpets feeling wet to the touch. The curtains had dust and dirt fall from them when we moved them. The charming and quaint rooms we saw in photos in reality are dated and dingy. The bedding didn’t fit the beds properly which resulted in the mattress pads pulling up and exposing the mattress. Housekeeping barely attempted to make up the beds on our second morning, with the bedding tossed on the bed and the mattress still visible with no effort made to actually make the bed. The bathroom desperately needed a deep cleaning, with urine and dust on the toilet paper holder and built up dust in the vent. The restaurant staff were the friendliest we met on the property, with Heather and Izzy being attentive and made our stay memorable. We would not return to the Waring House and caution other travellers who are considering booking this property.

Staff were friendly and the Barley Mow Pub is charming but the place has seen better days. Breakfast was a fiasco as they lost both our order and also that of another couple. The tattooed staff were not well organized and seemed more interested in cracking jokes than providing proper service. Don’t order the corned beef hash.

We booked a suite for 2 adults and 1 child however no bed provided for our child. When we asked front desk for assistance they were hostile and said we don't have any bed or cots available and did not apologize. When we kindly reminded them we booked for 3 ppl they said you booked with a third party so it's not our issue. Generally unhelpful staff. Also the next morning there were couple of small roaches in our bathroom which was quite disturbing.

Wonderful Birthday trip

Went for my wife's birthday. Grounds are nice but a lot of walking between our building and the restaurants. We are both getting on and the steep stairs to the second floor were quite formidable. The pub and main restaurant the food was excellent in both but the service was pleasant but very slow.

We did enjoy our stay and the rooms were very nice. There are a few problems like the mattress is in very rough shape it was like sleeping in a bowl you could think of replacing. We ate at the Amelia garden gourmet restaurant for supper the first thing the waitress told us was everything they didn’t have. We ordered the scallops and pork belly for an appetizer and it wasn’t worth eating the scallops were the size of a dime and the pork belly was 3/4 fat. It took almost an hour to get the appetizer. I ordered the fillet steak and my wife ordered the chicken dinner it to took a while when it came to us it looked like it was thrown on the plate potatoes on mine were cool to the touch. There were only four couples in the restaurant at this time. I guess what we are trying to say is if you don’t have the time to make this an excellent dinner and are more interested in running the pub I suggest you close the gourmet restaurant all together the value for the price wasn’t there. The rest of our stay was fantastic including the free breakfast in the morning which was included with the room.

Lots of amenities and the pub was popular for local seniors. Pub had great food. We were upgraded to an okay room but no elevator. The first room was so stinky and musty. The property could be gorgeous if they did some upgrades and took care of the grounds. It certainly didn't look like the photos presented online. Lots to do a little theatre, drive in nearby, pub on property etc.

We enjoyed our stay at the Waring House. Room was clean though the rugs could be given a steam clean. Staff is super friendly from reception to grounds crew, along with wait staff and bartenders. Barley Pub was great for drinks and food, reasonably priced. Breakfast was great. Highly recommend staying at the Waring House and plan to visit again when in the area.

Room was excellent, and staff were very helpful when there were minor items that needed attention. Food in both the pub and dining room was excellent! Wife is Celiac and there are lots of options for her, and the kitchen was able to adjust to her needs. We stayed 3 days/nights and ate all breakfasts (included and to-order not buffet) and 2 dinners, and wife had zero problems. Highly recommend for quality and amenities, plus only minutes to Picton and easy drive to wineries and Sandbanks.
