We are in Italy (from New Zealand) for 3 weeks. We’re based in Venice but trained to Florence for one night and stayed at Santa Maria Novella. It was the most I’ve ever spent on one nights accommodation but I can whole heartedly say it was money well spent! The staff are fabulous, we arrived quite early on the train from Venice (the train station is super close so nice easy walk) and it was no problem to store our bag before check in. They also stored our bag between check out and our afternoon train. The hotel itself is in the best possible location. Walking distance to everything. Fabulous restaurants close by (ie steps away). Our room was pure luxury. The entire shower and most of the bathroom was marble. The bed was huge and super comfy. The buffet breakfast was the best we’ve ever had. From cereal and yoghurt to bacon and eggs to pastries etc. They staff also make coffee and tea to order. Everything was perfect.

Hiring a ride in the heart of the city might be a challenge. But don't worry yourself just yet. Europcar is just a kilometre away in Lucca Historical Centre.

Holidays to Pescaglia

If you're arriving here via the nearby city of Lucca, Pescaglia is 15 kilometres to the northwest. If you're coming in from Viareggio, you'll need to make your way northeast for 17 kilometres.

If you've been trying to remember how many people live in this part of Lucca but your brain's in packing mode, don't stress — we can help. When last counted, the population was 200.

Great little villa and wonderful hosts. Lots of helpful advise and suggestions too. Do visit the beach club if it’s on offer and definitely visit the brewery / restaurant up the hill. Close enough for the beach and pisa and lucca and Florence. Highly recommended
