For Paris no complaints

Got caught up in the Gare du Nord unexploded bomb scenario. Hotel found me a room for an extra night.

This room unfortunately didn’t meet expectations. What looked like a quaint quirky and reasonably priced French hotel was a low quality and unsatisfactory room. The walls were so thin we could hear our neighbour coughing, talking and having a wee! The spare pillow for the uncomfortable bed had no pillow case and was discoloured, there was rust/staining on the bathroom ceiling and no shower curtain (when this was raised with the staff we were told the cleaners would just clean up any water on the floor). The room had an unpleasant smokey/musty smell and there was little to no electric ports. We ended up leaving after one night and going to another hotel because we both slept so poorly due to noise in the corridors/neighbouring rooms and we wanted to enjoy our five days in Paris more than we would have if we stayed at this hotel!

The Hotel Metropole had eveything I needed for a short stay in Paris. Close to Gare du Nord and Montmartre, and not too far to walk to Les Halles. The staff are helpful without being intrusive. My room was so cute. I will stay here again!

Very bad

The room was filthy, and noise from other guests made it hard to relax. Throughout our five-day stay, the staff never changed the bed sheets—just did a quick tidy-up. Even upon arrival, the sheets were already unclean. Sleeping was nearly impossible due to the unhygienic conditions, and the pillows were awful. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all.

There were ants in the room and it smelled odd. The balcony was lovey but was accessible by other rooms so it wasn’t secure to leave open at night to air the room which was really hot at night.

I stayed 8 nights. Cons: This isn’t necessarily the hotel’s fault, but the walls are thin so you can hear everything, and people who are inconsiderate will talk their heads off at midnight and slam their doors at all hours. You can bet you will hear it all. (I used a white noise app on my phone to sleep. Problem solved.) The bathrooms could be cleared of the hard water stains (some simple bleach will do). Pros: The balcony reveals the splendor of Paris. Temperature control is good, there’s free WiFi and an old-school elevator, the bed is comfortable, there’s plenty of hot water,m, you’re very close to a massive train station and myriad restaurants. A pharmacy is next door. Staff is friendly. Be prepared to pay a lot of taxes upon check-in and to leave your key anytime you leave (Americans may not be used to this). This is a sufficient hotel for the money.

The hotel is in a great location, making it an excellent base for exploring Paris. However, the overall experience was very basic and outdated. My room (Room 25) had several issues. The TV didn’t work, though this wasn’t a major problem. The biggest inconvenience was the lack of power outlets—there was only one plug, located by the door rather than near the bed. This made charging devices inconvenient, and the loose socket felt unsafe. The bathroom design was poor. The shower had no screen, causing the entire bathroom to flood after each use. This made the floor slippery and inconvenient. The bed was clean but very hard, making it difficult to get comfortable. Another issue was the keycard policy—you have to return it to reception every time you leave, which made me anxious about leaving valuables in the room. While the location is excellent, within walking distance of major attractions, the lack of comfort and outdated facilities make it hard to recommend. If you only need a basic place to sleep, it works. However, if you’re looking for a comfortable stay, this is not the place. I would not stay here again and would choose a better alternative next time.

Charming and quiet

The Metropole is simple but charming. I had a 6th floor room, very quiet, a good bed in which I slept extremely well, and even a small table at which to do some work. Altogether pleasant and incredibly convenient for transport

The location is very good, just minutes from Gare du Nord. Personnel very nice and the lady responsible for the breakfast room was very sweet. It is an older hotel which I expected and I was comfortable. Just wish they would spend a little bit of money and install shower curtains. No matter how careful one is the water goes out of the bathtub, the floor is wet which could cause accidents stepping out of the tub.

Just don't go

This was thankfully a one-night stay and I chose this hotel because of its proximity to Gare du Nord. everything in the room is dated and the bathroom not super clean. A big issue was that there was only one plug in the bedroom: that of the TV, up high, so I had to be creative not to let my phone dangle from the cord (the bathroom plug was not charging my phone). The receptionist checked me in while being on the phone for personal business (he said he had been on hold for an hour).

The rooms lacked basic amenities. The TV was extremely small, and the pillows were practically non-existent. I usually use a second pillow between my legs for comfort, but here, the pillows were tightly wrapped in the sheets, making it impossible to separate them. The staff were friendly though.

Small but great for solo

Stayed for a few days on a solo trip to Paris. Conveniently located close to train station. Very friendly and warm reception. Room was a little small and shower was a bit awkward to use but overall for the price I was happy.
