Accommodation In Oamaru

Our Oamaru accommodation puts you right into the heart of Whitestone Waitaki. The town's renowned Whitestone Victorian architecture, little Blue Penguins and rich history are only surpassed by the warm southern welcome you will receive in the beautiful town of Oamaru.

During the late 19th Century, the harbour was vital for Oamaru and its farming hinterland. Grain and wool were housed in often ornate warehouses, built and carved from locally quarried Oamaru limestone. As the rural economy boomed, the Harbour area became a hub for prosperous businesses, banks, hotels and new industries.

Today, many of the majestic Oamaru whitestone buildings comprising the Harbour/Tyne Historic Precinct still stand. They are now home to a collection of curio shops, restaurants, gift stores, a Motoring Museum, a hotel, a fascinating book store, traditional craftsmen, the Oamaru Steam Train and Sunday markets. All within easy reach of eco tours such as the Blue Penguin Colony which lies in the confines of the Harbour. Our Oamaru hotel accommodation is perfectly positioned for you to explore all this quaint little town has to offer.

Oamaru is a marvellous town to walk in, full of interesting sights and interesting people. Over the past decade there's been a renaissance in the life of historic Oamaru, nurtured by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust, the local Oamaru Whitestone Trust, the Waitaki District Council, and the townspeople - don't be surprised to see locals in Victorian dress, or riding around on Penny Farthing cycles, Oamaruvians and the country people of North Otago are very proud of their heritage.
