When I first booked Mokutu, I was drawn to those charming A-Frame Chalets, something a bit different from the usual apartments and hotels I’m used to. On Wotif, I noticed a note saying “a car comes with the property.” But none available for my dates. Did that mean a complimentary runabout, or a car at an extra cost? The mystery remained unsolved, so I booked a hire car elsewhere just to be safe.
Fast forward to my arrival: stepping off the plane, I was greeted by Sheree, the warm and wonderfully relaxed owner, along with a gentleman holding car hire paperwork. I hadn’t expected anyone to actually meet me at the airport (despite the small print saying they would), so it was a delightful surprise.
Within minutes, I’d somehow signed forms, jumped into a car that definitely wasn’t the shiny Toyota Corolla I’d hired, and found myself trailing behind Sheree while the car beneath me clunked and groaned a little too loudly. She cheerfully pointed out local highlights along the way, including Norfolk Island’s one and only “mall.” Once at Mokutu, the mystery deepened, apparently this noisy little car was already included in my accommodation package. So yes, I could have saved myself about $400 if the Wotif info had been clear. Lesson learned!
