Accommodation In Nang Rong

Nang Rong is a small country town in the middle of Issan, the north eastern region of Thailand. If you want to escape the tourist crowd, experience lush nature and real Thai life while enjoying some of the best food in Issan, you’ve come to the right place. All you need to do is book a hotel in Nang Rong, and start your journey into this beautiful part of the world.

Just 35km outside of Nang Rong sits one of Thailand's most amazing Khmer temple complexes, the Phanom Rung Historical Park. Built on the remains of an ancient volcano, it’s most comparable to Angkor Wat, just a bit smaller and a lot older. Most importantly, there are a lot less tourists here! Dating back to the 10th century it was originally a Hindu shrine dedicated to Shiva, symbolizing his heavenly dwelling Mount Kailash. From the top you have a wonderful view across a sea of rice paddies, making it ideal for sunset photography and a pleasant day out.

When you get back to town, try the local food at one of the markets. Choose from lovely restaurants or grab some snacks to munch on while you walk and browse the stalls. There's almost always a market open, from the busy Sunday market to the All Night Market - just ask the locals and they'll point you in the right direction. Most of the markets sell primarily fresh produce and food, but you can find almost everything at the central market (or in the shops just next door).

After dinner take a sunset walk around Lake Nong Tar Mor. It's just west of the town centre and the most popular place for the locals to get some exercise. There's a beautiful running track skirting the lake, and a range of equipment installed in the park to work up a sweat. The country roads surrounding the town are in excellent condition, rent a motorbike and enjoy the views as you drive to see the three temples surrounding the town.

Nang Rong is a lovely destination in a seldom visited part of Thailand. Sitting only 340km from Bangkok, it’s quite easy to get to after arriving in the capital, while providing a lovely sense of peace and calm. You don't find this in many places in Thailand anymore. Search our listings to find the best Nang Rong accommodation and flights to Bangkok, and come enjoy the serenity for yourself.
