This hotel is had classic vibes. Lovely, spotless rooms. Great fireplaces and balconies. Some rooms are the perfect view for the gorgeous Carmel sunsets.

I booked this hotel based on the pictures of rooms. It looked so bright and cheery... Not So.. We had room #3. It was in an alcove and the room was the darkest hotel room I have encountered on my travels. The king suite was ok, it had a gas fireplace, but you needed lights during the day. The king size bed and sofa were terrible. Both very worn, and need to be replaced, very uncomfortable. I also did not like that you had to exit the bedroom through the bathroom to get to the small living room area. It was also a little overpriced for the condition of bed and sofa. Liked where the property is located, and of course love Carmel, but did not really like room #3.

Wayside was a lovely choice for us. Free parking and walkable to everything we wanted. Staff were all courteous and helpful. They allowed us to check in 2 hours early and an hour late. The beds and bedding are luxurious and so comfortable. There were premium channels, such as HBO and MAX. Plenty of USB/USBC chargers next to the beds. There were lots of lovely details, like soft robes, a fan and extra comforter in the closet. There was mini-fridge and coffee maker in the room with real half/half. Toiletries, including shampoo, shower gel and a shower cap. The lobby always had complimentary coffee, apples, fresh baked cookies, candy and hot tea assortment, ready to go. They also had complimentary filtered water and a thermos instead of single-use plastics.

Paid extra for balcony and it was basically a chair in the parking lot. LOUD room near stairwell, water pipes vibrated so loud it sounded like a belt sander on the floor. Very disappointed by the noise, loved the location but we definitely would not stay here again.
