We enjoyed our stay, and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. Loved the original look of the hardwood floors and stairs. The courtyard was beautiful and peaceful. We will be staying again in the future.
Room was very comfortable, well appointed, quiet, great balcony.
Bathroom was very small, and needed some attention (loose tp and towel rack, mirror.)
The courtyard in the hotel is beautiful, as well as the architecture.
Friendly staff, older style rooms (loved the character), and easy walking distance to restaurants and bars uptown. Only suggestion would be to have coffee in common area available for guests. Never been a fan of using coffee pots in rooms, for many reasons. Will stay here again.
I was hoping to hear from someone after our stay as I was told by the front desk that my complaints were received by the owners…
Two things.
One. I reserved and paid for a King Historic with balcony but the room we were given did not have a balcony. After checking with front desk, we were told the owner would contact us with a reimbursement for the mistake.
Two. We were woken by power tools and the heavy tread of workman before 8 am. It was very loud, especially considering it was in the connecting room next door, and it continued til we checked out. It was unacceptable. And there is no way this construction “just happened” and wasn’t scheduled.
I choose to stay in historic hotels because I believe in supporting them. But I have never felt so ripped off and taken advantage of.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
Great location, beautiful setting, spacious rooms. I wanted to love the Malaga Inn, but I was disappointed. Obviously, it is an old building and I understand that it will never be like a newly constructed hotel, but my overall impression was that the place was shabby and tired. Our room needed a top to bottom deep clean. There was visible built up dust on the doors. One of the closet doors was missing and the one that was there had what appeared to be makeup that possibly squirted out of the bottle onto the door and dried there. Our bathroom had no toilet paper holder, so the T.P. just sat on the tank. Also, the headboards on our beds did not seem to be connected to the bed frames. The elevator was not working, so we had to lug our luggage upstairs. Thankfully we were only on the 2nd floor. When we arrived, the woman at the desk said that we Expedia should have contacted me because my credit card was declined (I was never contacted & the card was good) and that I was lucky that they were going to accommodate us at all since it was a busy weekend. I was kind of taken aback because she made it seem like it was my fault. We had 2 rooms. We stayed there for the Senior Bowl. The beds were comfortable and the hotel was quiet even though it was supposedly full. The building is beautiful; I’m sure was stunning when it was newly renovated, but it needs work. Everything looked like it had seen better days. The lobby was full of boxes and it looked like they had ordered new furnishing.
I drove down for a concert at the Saenger Theatre, which was within walking distance. I checked into my room and noticed the cord on the floor lamp was cut and had been repaired with tape. The outlet between the beds was loose in the wall and cords just fell out of it. The staff was very nice and helpful but not enough to burn to death in an electrical fire.
Beautiful, clean, old hotel located 10 minutes walking from Dolphin street. We had the balcony up front which was Beautiful. Everything fun to do is in walking distance. Free parking is a plus.
The redeeming quality of this bygone-era inn is the service staff - from the beginning, all of the staff we interacted with were warm and helpful - 10/10!
However, the staff don't have much control over the condition of the property/rooms which were certainly a disappointment. None of the common space/lounge areas were open on the first floor, were just filled with stuff looking like a storage unit, this was the first thing we saw walking up!
The elevator was out of order, we had to lug all of our bags up 3 flights of stairs ourselves. Rooms are not updated and hardly comfortable. The wood floor was STICKY. No mini fridge. Furniture very old and sitting chair was covered in unpleasant stains.
And as a cherry on top, you can hear everything, absolutely everything, in neighboring rooms - zero privacy.
