Was a lovely stay grounds were amazing staff very friendly and helpful … bed a little uncomfortable for me but I am very tall 6ft 4 and a lot of steps in the property but to be expected of a building of it’s age … would definitely stay again

The room was clean. At the pool people were wearing bath ropes. We didnt have one and I found out at the end and when I rang in the evening they said we normally charge but we will give you with good will gesture. The pool and spa facilities were amazing. Dinner we had at the restaurant unfortunately we didn’t know we had to book, they kindly accommodated us with seats but the good quality wasn’t great it came quite late and when it arrived they were quite cold not to the standard of what we paid for. Our room view wasn’t great we were given a room facing a wall without any view which was a big disappointment. I loved the located the surrounding of the hotel it was amazing.

Really nice place to stay, can literally 'feel' the history inside the older parts of the building with exposed original stonework, beams etc. A bit pricey for food and drink, pint of Guinness and cider was £13.50. We only had a room service sandwich each 'after hours' which came to over £30 with the associated charges! A good sandwich, nicely presented with crisps and garnish but still, steep for a sarnie but our own fault for staying in the bar too long! To be expected at a place with a golf course attached to it I suppose. Great 'sports bar' as well but bizarrely closed at 19:00 every night. TV's were still on but no staff to change channels and meant a long (ish) walk to the main bar and back. Early close possibly because of it being 'out of season' for golf-ists. Be prepared for many steps if you're not staying in rooms in the main building but that was part of the charm for us. Courteous, friendly and helpful staff. Bit slow behind the bar at times but everyone has to have a first day at some point and really not a problem if you have a bit of patience which should be shown anyway in my opinion!. The room was nice and clean as was most of the rest of the site although a smoking shelter and more ashtrays wouldn't go amiss. Good amenities in the room with the take-away cups included with the tea and coffee facilities being a stroke of genius! All in all, very good and we'd stay again if we're in the area.

The journey to the room from reception was unusual! And definitely not suited to patrons with walking difficulties. 1. Either walk around the outside in all weathers, enjoying the garden views, which meant risking your life as cars sped by, all ignoring the signs asking them to drive at walking pace. Speed bumps should be installed, or larger signs, or similar deterrents to enforce this requirement. 2. or walk along multiple corridors inside, up and down many steps, before again going outside to access the room. The food in the dining room was ok but not good. It was all brown food. Same menu every day. You need to offer 'specials of the day' to ensure some variety. It was very noticeable that the breakfast service items were left out all through the lunch & evening service too, rather than cleared away like the food. Not a good impression, even though you have the room. Tidied away should be the order of the day. There was no offer at any time of help with collecting luggage from the car to deliver to the room. Nor was there an option for assistance when checking out. Not even a trolley in sight. Pleasant helpful staff in general but they all kept saying the hackneyed Americanism “Have a nice day”. This was actually unwelcome when we were off to a family funeral. Storage in our room (112) was poor. There were very few usable drawers, only small ones with no depth at all. I had to move the 2 bibles out of the bedside cabinet in order to put my undies away.
