The hotel could definitely use some work when it comes to certain things. For one, they should have definitely informed that their outlets are European outlets, especially if it’s the guests first time in Europe. EVERYTHING is downstairs which was new to me because even the mini bar is downstairs. Imagine your on the last floor and you need a SINGLE CUP of water…unnecessary. And to top it off they don’t even sell still water only vitamin….dinner in there BARELY exists. You have to have reservations for the restaurant and if you don’t then you have to dine outside and most restaurants you have to have a reservation. Good luck getting same day reservations. I didn’t know they offered a buffet for dinner until the second to last day…not sure why they don’t have it advertised like they do breakfast… However, the view is STUNNING and convenient for people that want to spend a little extra on rooming. The area is in the city so it’s superrr convenient to get ANYTHING. They say to schedule online to clean your room on YOUR time. That’s not true. They clean your room everyday like every other hotel and ingore your “requests” to have it cleaned on a specific day. Not sure why they have that system set up.

The room was terrific. The overbooked our level of room so we were upgraded for the first night. Only a slight hassle to move the next day but both rooms were large, comfortable and well maintained. Perhaps the best part about the stay was the breakfast buffet. It is included in the room and I have never seen so many food options at any buffet. It was all delicious. The location on the water was a big plus and we never had to venture far to get to the meeting point for our tours.

Stunning views but ...

I visit Tromsø regularly but this was my first time at the Ishavshotel. Although I enjoyed my stay there'll not be a repeat. On arrival there were about 15 people waiting to check-in with just one receptionist. Check-in took around 25 minutes. The same evening I was told the restaurant was closed. So no dinner.The following evening the restaurant was open but "fully booked" with lots of empty tables and no discernable sense of urgency. Dinner was a pre-packed sandwich from the shop in reception. A novel experience at breakfast was queueing for the coffee machine, of which there was just the one. A slow one. So there was a line of around 6 people, some making 2 cups. Patience is a virtue, at the Ishavshotel it is a pre-requisite. On the plus side, the views are breathtaking, the staff are delightful, the rooms are reasonably comfortable, the showers are powerful and breakfast is OK and plentiful. The hotel is in the same price class as the 5 star Grand in Oslo. Enough said.

I had emailed in advance about early check in and understood it was based on availability. The rooms became available while I was sitting in the lobby. Would've been nice if someone had mentioned it to me as I was right next to them. That's my only complaint. Everything else was exceptional!

Perfect location in Tromso on harbour front. Bus stop for Airport Express immediately outside. Many tour groups have pick up at hotel or within 5kin walking distance. Most sights easily walkable Buffet breakfast is very generous, wide variety including tasty local food.

I didn't much enjoy the Christmas party with the dueling bands in the party rooms that I could hear on the 6th floor as well as having to push through the party crowd in the lobby to get to the elevators. That's the only complaint I have. View was excellent. Location was great.

Could have been amazing but fell short.

I want to start with the good because this hotel really could have been amazing. The reasons for the poor review will become clear later. First, the breakfast... amazing! So much variety, fresh, generally well made and delicious. Honestly I think I gained 1kg from this breakfast alone. The first two days we were at the hotel everything was amazing and well catered. The staff was friendly and helpful. In fact I proposed to my partner on this trip and the bar tender gave us glasses to take up with our bubbly. The problems... first was the bed, which was horrible. Not even remotely comfortable. I'd take my backpacking pad and pillow over that mattress. The big problem... on our second day we got up early for a day trip and upon arrival found out that there was a concert going on in the hotel. No warning, no notification, just "welcome back to a bunch of drunk people in the lobby". We literally had to push our way through a crowd to get to the elevator. We then had to go out for dinner, repeat above. And on getting back, again... drink crowd, no control by the hotel staff. People literally leaning on the no smoking sign at the entrance, sticky floors, generally a horrible environment to come back to. There was no effort to control the crowd or ensure guests could reach the elevator. There was no effort to warn us. The side effect of this was our last morning the hotel was still a mess and the staff seemed over whelmed probably because they had less help after the party.
