Such a wonderful 150 year old Ryokan. Peaceful and relaxing. Staff is excellent!! Just be aware the bedding is all Japanese style - futon on a platform. I found it to be comfortable though. Room was large, with a terrace overlooking the river.

Very wonderful Ryokan with their own onsen on site. The different onsen have hours segregated for male and female guests. Room comes with half board, serving traditional Japanese fare. Relaxation, with a side sightseeing

We arrived just in time for dinner to be served in our room — an experience we'd highly recommend. The multi-course affair was a wonderful way to cap off a long day of traveling. In the morning we rose early to enjoy the on-site onsens, which is why we chose this property (and was well worth the splurge). After a breakfast (again in our room), we walked the town. Upon arriving we hadn't realized how convenient the location is. As we continued on our way, our only regret at checkout was that we hadn't stayed longer.

Some staff were very efficient and professional, some other are extremely friendly and attentive. We have been pampered during our stay. The only complaint is the store in the lobby is too small can only carry very limited items.

I think the service was good, I was very disappointed in the onsens. They had no variety and were all the same temperature, just different shapes. For the price you pay, I would hope for at least one hot bath, one medium warm, and one cold bath.

Arai is a very nice ryokan. Food was generally pretty good quality, except for the deep fried items, which is not very pleasant to eat by the time it arrives in our room cold.
