Well maintained older hotel with personal hot tubs behind certain rooms. Our room had two twin beds pushed together with stand alone third twin. Mid sized small fridge good for travel food and ice packs. Hot tub spaces behind rooms had thin bamboo screens between you and neighbors so could hear all conversation. Similarly room walls, being older hotel, allowed conversations to be heard from neighbors. The thermal spring fed tubs are down the hill thru a lovely forest and near river which makes it luscious. Tub areas are cleaned in the morning / we went in the morning while no one was in any of the tubs and person came to clean at 8:30. Suggest boat shoes or flip flops in tubs as they do have slippery algae on underwater surfaces. There is a changing room by the tubs however no robes are provided by hotel. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Had a good nights sleep!

Hot Springs were amazing, clean and well kept. Had such an amazing time. We stayed 2 nights which was perfect length of stay (we do not play golf). Dinner menu was good, however we only ate there once due to limited options.

We know it's an older hotel, but we don't mind that. However, this experience was terrible. I rarely write reviews, but I definitely want to share this one online. First, the shower didn't have hot water in the morning; it only had slightly warm water after 6:15 AM or later. Second, the staff wasn't very helpful. After washing my hair, I found the hair dryer wasn't working. My family asked at the front desk, and they said they didn't have any extra hair dryers, only one per room. The staff also seemed reluctant to help us, as we thought other unoccupied rooms might have hair dryers we could borrow, but we weren't sure if all rooms were rented out. My family then tried to ask the staff to try the hair dryer again, but luckily it wasn't broken; it was just the electrical issue in our bathroom. Third, there were only two clothes hangers. Fourth, the hot spring water wasn't hot, just lukewarm. There was a so-called changing room nearby, which was full of insects, including dead mosquitoes and ants, and it wasn't cleaned at all. Fifth, breakfast was supposed to be from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, but when we arrived at 8:30 AM, 80% of the food was gone, and the staff didn't refill it. The breakfast only consisted of a few breads and cereal s , no eggs, no basic hotel breakfast. This experience is very bad, the staff did not follow up or care. It is okay to stay for one night, but in comparison, there are more better options. I believe motels are better.

Hotel is old with small rooms which we found quite enchanting, the mineral pools down by the river were great and you should arrive in time to enjoy these. Dinner was quite ordinary though and don’t order the steak. Breakfast was enjoyable though. We would stay here again but order for dinner what you would expect to come out of the freezer well. There is nowhere else nearby to get dinner. Loved the grounds and ambience of the hotel. Would return.

We loved our stay because it was so different and had so much history on the walls and our room loved it so much I was sad it was to hard for me after my hip operation to get to the pools just to steep and to far down steps etc But everything else was 110% we loved it THANK YOU

On the night we were there, was a function, the restaurant and bar was very noisy and busy. The overall hotel was great, beds very good and excellent breakfast spread. We were warm enough as the heating in the rooms was very efficient but another blanket on the bed would have been nice. Access to pools, and the pools themselves were amazing. Would definitely return

Lovely stay. Dining options at the restaurant are amazing. Chales are cosy with private hot tub. Staff is friendly. Really recommend and will be back in the future. PS: Great option if you are visiting Hobbiton. (around 23min drive)

The property has some nice features in terms of furniture, fittings and ambience. The heritage bedrooms nice decor, comfy bed. Shower curtain lets too much water on the floor, nice hot water, BUT the plug does not hold water in the basin so water is wasted. Now to the food. Beautiful fish ruined by overcooked batter, should have sent it back. Steak was great especially the surf and turf. Peri peri chicken beautiful and tender but far too hot. Prices good as were the drinks. Not a safe walk to the pool except in daylight for older people, too many tree roots.

This is a very rustic property with lots of character. I didn't partake, but was told the included breakfast was very good (apparently the chef is a pastry chef) the room was comfy, and the area was serene. If you stay here you have access to the natural hot pools 24/7. The staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed 4 days and it was nicely convenient to a lot of places. (We went to Hobbiton and Waitomo glow worm caves). Matamata is convenient with other dining options, but the food at the hotel was very good. Very happy with our stay.

Stayed in one of the chalets. It was spacious with air-conditioning which was great. The bed was very good and the overall experience was very good. The bathroom could use a bit of upgrading as the towel rail was missing, no towel hooks and there was a lack of shelf space . Not a big deal really forca 3 star hotel. A lovely continental breakfast was included
