What a gem. The rooms are amazing and the property in itself is a tranquil escape to be taken in like a slow breath. This was a gift for my wife on her birthday, the stay and a visit to the spa for some pampering. She was thoroughly impressed and loved everything about it. You are only a walk away from the plaza and we even walked from there to Michael’s Kitchen for an amazing lunch. Great escape for anyone.

The hotel was lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant was pricey, but tasty. The shuttle was hugely helpful since they would drive us to the plaza, or to just about anywhere. There was a huge tub in our room that was lovely and our view of the courtyard made us feel miles away. We stayed in a room with us parents and our 2 teenagers- my parents were in a neighboring room and were pleased also.

Perfect Refuge

I am not exaggerating when I say I'd live at El Monte Sagrado part of the year if I could. The grounds are so gorgeous, so well planned, that between the outdoor space, the wonderful lounge and restaurant, and the salt water pool, you could be forgiven for not going anywhere else during your stay! The spa is special. You must experience it to know how special it really is.

Skip, there are better options.

Mixed bag... The property has the potential to be great, but it isn't. Staff were either untrained or ambivalent, or even worse- the GM was unwilling to accept even constructive criticism, and when I began talking to him he immediately 'knee jerked' by saying how he just took the position, and then was rude and arrogant about everything I told him. I treated an elderly patient who feel when I was there (I was trying to leave, and it was obvious the staff were not medically trained,) and it cost me several hours when I was just trying to leave, and continue on with my trip. Staff could communicate even the most basic of information to one another, and it constantly seemed weird, and like no one was even clear of what their job was. The property felt soulless, and clearly the owners are more interested in making a maximum profit than actually making it feel like or seem like a 4 star property. I was there for many nights/several days, and I intentionally left the room one morning because housekeeping was in the room next door. When I came back several hours later I found that my room had not even been touched! Gross incompetence everywhere, and the 'new' jackal of a GM is not going to improve on that. Location is on the outside of town, making it somewhat removed, but also kind of inconvenient, unless you are cool with eating in the same restaurant for every meal, and even that they close early when it's not busy. Really disappointing overall.

A Stunning Retreat in Taos

Our stay at El Monte Sagrado was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm and attentive customer service and felt welcomed as guests. One of the first things we noticed was the incredible art displayed throughout the resort. From paintings to sculptures, every piece seemed carefully chosen to reflect the beauty and culture of the area. A hidden gem of the resort is the library, which is definitely worth checking out. It’s a quiet, cozy space filled with books and comfortable seating—perfect for unwinding after a long day of exploring Taos. The library also has a pool table, chess boards, and a collection of old records that you can listen to while you relax. Our room was luxurious, featuring elegant decor, a comfortable bed, and a deep soaker tub that was perfect for relaxing. One of our favorite parts of the stay was the indoor pool area. Surrounded by lush tropical plants, it felt like stepping into another world. The hot tub was especially cozy, offering the perfect way to warm up and unwind. The entire space was beautifully designed and added an extra layer of relaxation to our trip. Overall, El Monte Sagrado exceeded our expectations. It’s a place where art, nature, and luxury come together to create an unforgettable experience. We can’t wait to return!

We only stayed there briefly and overnight, but it was a lovely spot in Taos and very convenient. Wish we could have stayed longer.

One of my favorite places. I discovered it 20 years ago and it is the only place I will stay when in Taos. It's unique with interesting grounds and spaces. Staff are excellent. The restaurant is great with several unique items on the menu. It's probably due for a refresh though, for instance the tv's in the rooms are ancient and didn't work.
