This property is very rundown. We chose the ‘cottage’ thinking it would be a quieter. It was a motel style room. The pipes made a horrible screeching noise whenever someone in another room turned on the water. We were unable to sleep because of the noise. There were holes in the walls, peeling paint and a dirty mat. The only thing worse was the smell. It smelled of pungent flower air freshener that you could taste it was so strong. For the price of this place you could stay in a much nicer hotel somewhere else.

This property is a dump. We can’t believe we paid what we did. I would sleep in my car before I’d stay here again. There is no elevator in the hotel. The hallway is dark & the lights were flickering. The hallway & room smell bad. The room is very outdated & the wallpaper is peeling off. One bed didn’t line up with the headboard by over a foot (no biggie but it was weird). I wouldn’t dare step on the carpet in bare feet. The bathroom was old. There were stains on the counter. The tub was so dirty looking, we showered with our crocs on our feet. There was no soap in the dispenser in the shower. The bathroom ceiling had water damage, the paint was peeling off in places. We.were warned at check-in that there were kids baseball teams staying at the hotel but there was absolutely no need for them to be running back and forth the hallway all evening, screaming & calling out to each other. It was hard getting my kids to sleep with the noise. And the worst thing at the hotel was the facecloths. There were only two facecloths in the room when we arrived. My husband asked for more & someone did promptly bring us more. All good until I tried to wash my face. When I wet the facecloth & put it up to my face, I almost threw up from the smell. I ended up splashing water on my face. When I got in bed, I could still smell the facecloth. My son went to wash his face in the morning & he almost threw up too. The cloths had a machinery type smell, like they were deep fried in motor oil. So gross!
Questionable if the shower curtain had been white originally. All old with caulking everywhere and dirty looking.
The picture doesn’t clearly show how bad the water marks were on the ceiling.
Gross
Stain on counter.

We were surprised to learn there was no elevator after we were assigned a second floor room. For us, as a young family, we were ok to climb the stairs with our suitcases. But if this is the situation, guests should be given the option to select a ground level floor or at least offer staff who can carry the bags up for guests who may not be able to handle that. We had a family room, which was very spacious which we liked. It had 2 beds plus a pull out couch, chair, and plenty of floor space besides. However, everything is very old. And while I understand that the building itself is old, there are simple upgrades that could improve the quality. For example, the carpet should be removed, the bathtub has chips in it, the sheets on the beds are pilling and dingy which shows their age, the toilet struggles to flush.

Arrived at hotel. Walked in. Three staff members ignored us for five minutes. Once their conversation ended they then interacted with us. I reserved a room, pictured on expedia, for 200+ canadian. There are two buildings for this hotel comples. The main building must be for those deemed higher caste. The clerk assigned us a room in an alternate building across the Trans Canada Highway(TCH). I assume for lower caste individuals. The building reminded me of a run down remnant from the 1950s. We traveled across the TCH and inspected the assigned room location. The building location did not look safe: hidden in trees, lighting issues, and general unkempt appearance. We turned around and crossed theTCH and returned the key card and told the clerk(s) that we are not staying. We left and drove to Clarenville, Nl, a three hour drive, there were no rooms in Gander, Nl. We had to pay a little over three hundred dollars for a clean, safe, and well lighted room and building. What we learned--read the reviews, pay for rental insurance to be able to cancel the reservation, and stay in national chain hotels where one knows what resources are available for lighting, safety, and building location.

Priscilla at the front desk was friendly and SUPER helpful. When we had inadvertently booked a 1 King room but needed 2 Queens she quickly upgraded us to an available room at no extra charge! We were also able to get a light bulb replaced and sink clog fixed in mere minutes. All staff super helpful and accommodating. Well done!

Overall our experience was positive but there is room for improvement. The lobby has clearly been recently renovated and looks nice. The rooms are clean and spacious, but they are a little dated and there is a lingering musty smell in the hallways. Bathrooms are similarly clean, but in need of an update (our tub had rust stains and the flange of the shower head was no longer attached to the wall). When we checked in, staff were kind but swamped so we ended up waiting as they dealt with in-person check-ins and people making phone reservations. Additionally, they told us our room number out loud (rather than saying "you're on X floor" with the full number written in the key folder), which I believe is no longer done to protect the security and privacy of guests.
