Charming, old fashioned hotel in a great location

Clean, comfortable rooms in an old hotel with great vintage style. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts were delicious and filling. The location of the hotel in the west end makes easy access to the university, parks and museums, with easy bus access to downtown. Also, the free wifi made it easy to keep in touch with friends and family abroad. I really enjoyed my stay and would stay at The Alfred again.

Lovely historical Hotel in a great location

Pros: Great location with a bus stop diagonally across the road and its beautiful decorative interiors.
Cons: If it were ever possible an elevator would be a real bonus. There was no parking available which was a problem with a hire car.
Location: Botanical Gardens just down the street. Universities, Museums and Art etc. within walking distance. Lovely reastaurants just 10 to 15 mins walk away.
It was a beautifully decorated Hotel. Our room was extremely spacious with great floor to ceiling bay windows at the front with a lovely view overlooking the street and trees. This was quite a refreshing change from a view of dirty roof tops in Paddington, London. The bed was comfortable and the room service faultless. The Hotel Reception is manned 24 hrs and on our 2 night stay we met quite possibly the nicest, friendliest and helpful young man on Reception named Max. He is an absolute credit to this Hotel and we wish him well in his IT studies. He went out of his way to help us, even with technical difficulites with our phone and tablet.
