About this property

Fireplace | Mini Cows + Horses | Farm Loft

Follow a quiet country road until the fields open up and a historic farmhouse comes into view. Here, mornings begin with the sounds of a working farm, mini cows grazing nearby, horses moving through the pasture, and plenty of open space to slow down and enjoy a different pace of life.

Step inside your private Loft, where original farmhouse character meets thoughtful modern comforts. Hardwood floors and warm natural light welcome you into the living area, while a propane fireplace gives you a place to settle in after a day outdoors. In the private loft-style bedroom, a Queen bed with plush bedding and blackout curtains awaits, along with an electric fireplace for relaxed evenings in.

Mornings are made for coffee and an unhurried start. Prepare breakfast in the full kitchen, then decide where the day takes you. Follow the on-property hiking trail for scenic Belknap views, spend some time around the farm, or arrange a farm experience such as mini cow grooming or horseback riding.

When you’re ready to explore beyond the property, some of New Hampshire’s favorite outdoor destinations are within easy reach. Spend the day along Lake Winnipesaukee and Alton Bay, visit Crystal or Sunset Lake, or head toward Gunstock Mountain Resort for skiing, hiking, and seasonal adventures.

After a day outside, come home to the little comforts that make a difference. Heated tile floors greet you in the bathroom, while a rainfall shower offers an easy way to refresh. The Loft also includes Wi-Fi and a dedicated workspace when you need to stay connected, plus an in-unit washer and dryer that makes longer stays more convenient.

Outside, the farm is part of the experience. Horses, pigs, cats, and mini cows call the property home, and you may hear the natural sounds and activity that come with life on a working farm. Wander the designated guest areas and trails, enjoy the open surroundings, or simply watch the farm settle as evening arrives.

When the day winds down, turn on the fireplace, settle onto the sofa, and enjoy a quieter night in. Then retreat to the Queen bedroom and rest up for another morning of farm life, nearby lakes, trails, and New Hampshire adventures.

The Loft is one of three separate apartments within the farmhouse. Your apartment is completely private, with its own separate entrance and no shared indoor spaces. Other guests may be staying in the neighboring apartments or enjoying the property during your visit.

Nice rustic barn loft. Good location. Pet friendly. On a working farm. Took my dog on a nice walk on a gravel trail though the property's woods each morning. Great place to stay.

The loft not only was beautifully redone, it was also so peaceful with such a serene vibe. Even though it was 9 degrees the first night (with -6 wind chill) but it was still cozy with both fireplaces going. The thermostats on both were very helpful. The windows on both side let in so much natural light! The bathroom was gorgeous!I could go on and on…..

We had a wonderful stay at Varney Hill Farm. The Loft apartment had everything we needed for our long-weekend stay visiting the Lakes Region. The apartment was clean and well kept. It was a nice balance of rustic, cozy charm for an 1800s farmhouse with the right touch of modern amenities. We got to explore the property a little bit, getting to see the horses, cows, and pigs. Even explored some of the trails, which the farm is adjacent to town and state conservation land. Hosts Patti and Matt are great people and easy to reach in case of anything. Our dog ended up taking a tumble down the steps leading up to the loft and Patti was right there offering anything she could, even finding material to act as a temporary gate which was much appreciated. Pup's okay btw, just a swollen lip and a bruised ego. She thoroughly enjoyed her farm visit, too. Will definitely look to stay here the next time we're up in the area.
