This is not a pet friendly place. If I hadn’t had my dog with me I would have loved it, but there is ZERO place available to relieve dogs so I had to wander down the sidewalks to find any gravel or patch of dirt I could find. That wouldn’t have been so bad if the neighborhood wasn’t so sketchy. I definitely felt fear during our poop walks. Other hotels closer to the Walmart area are better suited for pets with designated pet areas and less sketchy areas to walk. With all that said, I really enjoyed El Rancho for other reasons. The restaurant was really good. The history and atmosphere are a lot of fun. The gift shops were great!

The El Rancho is an historic hotel and a true gem! We were there on a Friday night and the 49er Bar was hoppin! We had a nice dinner in the restaurant and did a little shopping in the nicely stocked gift shop. There is so much to look at throughout the two- story lobby. Beautiful Indian rugs and crafts, photographs, and memorabilia from when the hotel was built in 1937. Each room is named after a famous movie star of the Hollywood glory days- and of course that includes many Western movies that were filmed near Gallup. We were in #207, the Joel McCrea room. We had a comfy king-size bed, and everything you need- just not an abundance of room, so it’s a good thing it was me and my husband! But it was beautifully updated in a Western theme, with unique touches here and there! Loved the shower curtain and “do not disturb door tassels ”!
