About this property

The Headlands Hideaway

Looking for a cozy coastal stay with history? The Headlands Hideaway offers a full-size bed and a view of Main Street at the Grey Whale Inn. When the building opened in 1915 as the Redwood Coast Hospital, this space served as the nurses’ locker room. Today, it blends historic charm with modern comfort while preserving many of its original quirks. The room features a shower and vanity within the main living space, while the toilet is tucked away in its own private water closet. Intimate and comfortable, it’s a peaceful place to rest while staying in a unique piece of Fort Bragg history. This second-floor room is accessible by stairs only, as the property’s historic character does not include elevator access. Please note: this is a pet-friendly room.

The building is so beautiful and rich in history. You can tell right off the bat how Natalie genuinely cares about preserving the history of this once former, bustling hospital. I was ecstatic when she offered to show us around. We were in awe the entire stay here, looking at every little bit of details - from the church pews to the ramps. Our room was amazing, such a comfortable and clean bed. The energy here was so calming. It felt like coming home and going to my room. Next time we travel up to Fort Bragg, we know exactly where were staying.
