The Space:

Mountain-Top Haven is a one-of-a-kind, custom-built 2-bedroom Black Hills retreat near Custer — crafted in 1982 using the stacked-cordwood method for a truly unique escape. Inside, a rustic open floor plan pairs new wood flooring with high vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, and a hand-hewn log-railed staircase up to a lofted sleeping area, while a 65-inch smart TV and a Vermont Castings wood stove keep the home cozy.



The open kitchen is ready for homemade meals and large-group dinners, opening onto an extensive deck with tree-lined views and picturesque Black Hills sunsets from the front deck or the hill behind the cabin. Loved this place. Totally big enough for our group of 8. All the emenaties, and easy access to trails, places to eat, and the town of Custer. Highly recommend this place while visiting the black hills!

The best trip I’ve been on in years

This mountain top Haven was just what my soul needed. The gorgeous property filled with stunning rocks & views, a well equipped kitchen and bathrooms, a cozy hangout area, so close to several magnificent attractions (crazy house, Mount Rushmore, hikes, etc) and not to mention great restaurants & bars being just a 5min drive. I feel recharged & inspired after this trip. I will absolutely be back.

The home was lovely, had all the necessary modern amenities, including fast wifi and Netflix. The cooking utensils and toiletries were wonderful and added a home-away-from-home feeling. The drive up to the home on the hill is on an unpaved road (was not a problem at all). The location up on the hill gave it a more private feeling.

The home is secluded and centrally located for our trip (Custer Park, Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Wind Cave, Sylvan Lake, and all scenic highways). Home had all amenities needed, clean, and plenty towels/sheets. It’s spacious and plenty of parking for 3+ cars. Gravel road leads to home, but not bad. Overall, great location and space. Staff was attentive and responsive (trash service) 👍🏽

Cluster Cabin

Very nice, clean, and comfortable place to rest after a day of exploring South Dakota. Close to Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse is basically across the street, and about 20 minutes from Custer State Park, and 1.5 hours from Badlands. Easily able to drive to all these places and explore. Downtown Custer has good places to eat and shop. Everyone in Custer is so friendly. The local grocery store, Lynn’s, has everything you need. And the cabin itself is very well stocked with linens, towels, every kitchen appliance and tool you’ll need, as well as fully functioning bathrooms/showers and large washer and dryer. We have stayed a lot of cabins but this one set the bar very high!
