We have been to Cozumel many times and enjoy this side of the island specifically for the beautiful water at the beaches as we have tried the neighboring resorts next to Occidental. I noticed Barcelo owns Occidental and we have been to Barcelo in Cabo so we really loved that resort so we thought let’s give this one a try. We were very disappointed with the food choices at the buffet. It appeared like leftovers and the same thing every day. The meat quality of the steaks in the reservation restaurant Olivos was absolutely terrible as it was presented folded over with a ton of fat on the meat. Of course you can find sustainable food at the buffet like pasta but I didn’t spend money for this resort to eat pasta. At least the property is well kept and clean with beautiful scenery. We may not return to Occidental as this was our least favorite all inclusive resort and we have been to 21 different all inclusive resorts.

The resort is in a nice area. Some of the employees are just rude. The property is old and outdated. The back door in my toom was off track and window in the bathroom didnt close, even after maintenance came and fixed it.The buffet was ok not alot of choices. The specialty resturant if tou can maje a reservation was good especially the seafood restaurant. The drinks were ok alot of extra alcohol needed because they make them weak. I wouldnt recommend this resort.

We loved this resort, we stayed in the Royal section and our room was great. The beach is just a short walk from the rooms, the pool overlooking the ocean was awesome. The Buffett food was about par for all-inclusive, the reservation restaurants have amazing food. Like always, find your favorite bartender, tip them immediately and they will take care of you. We are already planning our return trip.

Loved it! Great immersion with a natural area. Beautiful environment. Lots of vegetation and wildlife. The birds and coatis are very habituated to people. It is important to not feed them or leave any food out for them to grab. Additionally people need to haze(scare) them off. We clapped our shoes or hands together and chased them off multiple times and that is important for the animal’s safety and for human safety. The animals need to be reminded to not get close to people. If you leave food or bags unattended the coatis will steal it. The staff also do a great job of hazing off the coatis/birds when notified. For the birds they also have great deterrents by the restaurants such as alarms and a raptor handler. The seafood restaurant was by far my favorite. The adult cabanas are comfy. The beach area is shaded and plenty of space. No crowds anywhere. Room had a/c and a fan. The power went out once and they fixed it super quick and had no issues. Bats are also very prominent so be cautious when walking and going up the flights of stairs to rooms, also important to make a lot of movement and noise so the bats avoid hitting you on accident. Their dance, circus, and mariachi staff are very talented and did amazing shows! Would definitely come here again!

This is my 4 visit over the past 10 years. I like to come back more often. It’s a nice, serene, peaceful resort, with just enough activities to choose from if you wish. I love the beach, because you can walk long ways without being crowded. The ocean is always so beautiful and pleasant to go in. The nature around the hotel is is beautiful and well kept. The buffet is very pleasant, there is always something to eat, even on days where it’s not my favorite. The beach restaurant never disappoints. The rooms are also nice, and well kept. And all the staff is very friendly and welcoming, from the gardener to the office crew, everyone there always shares a smile. Looking forward to next time.

The staff was excellent. They went out of their way to make sure we had a pisitive experience. The resort was beautiful. It's a vacation that we will never forget.

Our AC in room wasn’t cooling since first day of check in. Someone had to come two different times to fix it but issue still wasn’t resolved even on our last day of checking out and we were there 5 days. Never was given an option to switch rooms. Food and drinks were okay. Beach was beautiful. Bartenders were awesome and some waiters service as well.

The location, main property, and staff are excellent. The pool is located in a nice location; however, it is in poor condition and hurricane damage has not been repaired. The food is average and difficult to get reservations for the à la carte restaurants. Overall, it was a great vacation and I would stay there again without hesitation. I just hope they do some work on that pool and the hurricane damage to the pool deck.
