Unique Property with an Untold Story
We were in town for a weekend concert at Severance and stayed at this Carriage House. The Carriage House itself is very nice and its interior has been renovated. What did throw us off was the condition of the main house and the yard which are still in a significant state of disrepair. The lawn is overgrown with broken statues, walkways and collective clutter surrounding the exterior which you see from the carriage house.
We had no contact with the owner and it wasn't clear if they lived in the main house or not. This was a grand home in its day and I assume there are longer term plans to restore it but the current condition was a
distraction and, at some level not knowing the area, a concern that the neighborhood was not safe.
I'd suggest to the owner that they provide some welcome history of the overall property upon arrival to share a perspective on what it was (maybe even pictures) and what it hopes to be. Knowing this story would offer some life and positive energy to the property.
The location is great - a 10 minute walk to Little Italy and University Circle offering little cafes, coffee shops, and restaurants. Luna Bakery Cafe was a favorite.
