lovely little place

Stayed with family of 6. Nice place, very clean. Was able to park in garage which was nice. Only downside was that internet didn't work (some network/password miscommunication) and property manager didn't reply with new login info till after we'd left the following day. That was hard with teenagers, but otherwise, good stay.

Deceptive listing

Cleaning crew does not do a good job, best treatment we got was from the contractor who came to fix the air conditioner (iced over from ground to second floor, plus filters that hadn't been changed in a long time). The master bed was AWFUL. Very rickety and not supportive at all. So uncomfortable. Same for the double bed. A better choice would have been to keep an older washer and dryer (way too many settings, bluetooth connection, etc) and replaced the mattresses in those two rooms instead. The deck is horribly unsafe with broken boards. The living room couches were similarly unsupportive and need replacing. There may be a broken chair with the dining set. We had to purchase light bulbs and batteries in order to watch any TV in the house, and to have light in the stairwell or at the dining table. Light fixture at dining table is very low--multiple people in our party hit their heads when standing back up. Finally it was challenging to get in touch with anyone about these multiple issues, so we had to contact VRBO, the property management company, and the owner multiple times. This location was large enough to accommodate our family, plus close enough to those we were visiting, but these were the only ecemr

Not good stay and I do not recommend anyone to stay

VRBO picture is good and we chose to stay there but when we got there everything is bad and old. Bed are worn and I can feel the bed springs. Couches are worn and no cushion. When I sat down I sank low and also smelled of smoke. We could not sit at the couches and relax. Master shower is dripping and made dripping noise all night while I tried to sleep. Pots and pans were all scratched and rusty. I would not use them to boil water in them. Bath towel and other towels provided were stained. Carpets were vacuumed but behind the bed and under the beds were all dusty and dirty. Silver wear were cheap Dollar General spoons and forks. There were 4 plated and 2 smaller plates and 3 bowls. One was chipped. Not enough for 6 people to stay original schedule. The hot water tank is very small and after one person took as shower, I had to wait about 20 minutes before there was hot water but before I can fill the tube, hot water ran out. I don't know what standard VRBO has for people to qualify and become VRBO renters but I doesn't look like VRBO has any standard at all. Any dirty establishment can be VRBO renters. We tried to stay out as much as possible because we could not sit on couch to relax and watch TV. Couched smelled and no cushion and I sank low when I sat down. The living room was not a place for relaxation.

Spectacular Failure

Booked weeks in advance. Received the door code. Arrived. Door code didn’t work. No contact number for the host. Wouldn’t respond to email or to VRBO Customer Service. Was on the line for over an hour before booking a hotel. Host contacted us later, but we were happily at the Holiday Inn. VRBO on the phone offered minimal compensation, but I don’t expect them to follow through. Miserable experience. Should have read the reviews, as this appears to happen frequently at this property.

Warning! Safety and Cleanliness Concerns

The check-in time for this house is 3. A few minutes after 3, we were contacted by the host and informed that the house had not yet been cleaned and asked what time we were planning on arriving. We told them 6, but, because of the event we were attending, we did not arrive until 7:30. When we arrived to the house, the passcode we were given was not the right code to enter the house. We attempted to call the host, but were interrupted by the people arriving to clean the house. The cleaning staff were washing the bedding and towels when we left for dinner. They apologized and said everything would be finished when we came back from eating. However, when we came back, the only thing that had been done was the beds had been made. The bathrooms and flooring had not been cleaned which was evident by the dead insects, hair, and trash on the floor and the smears in the toilet. Upon further inspection, the bedding on the beds were dirty and smelled. Before we went to bed, we replaced the sheets and blankets on 2 of the beds due to stains and had to flip 1 mattress due to the large and very obvious urine stain. There are 3 TV’s in the house and 3 remotes for each, but only 1 remote had batteries. We used that remote to turn on the TV in the living room. The living room furniture was well used and very thin. The main light for the stairs had burned out bulbs. We also found the all windows and sliding doors unlocked and some were open. We would not recommend staying at this location.

Disappointed

I have to say I am very disappointed in this VRBO. I have stayed at many VRBO in the past and never had the issues we had here. 1) entry code was not correct 2) WIFI password was not working 3) 2 out of 3 TV did not work 4) Dirty dishes in dishwasher when we arrived ! No soap 5) metal step threshold not screwed into floor , trip hazard 6) master bed horrendous! It made such a loud noise as if the frame was broken . 7) trash under twin beds, candy wrappers etc. 8) hall bathroom upstairs towel rack falls off wall when towel on it Over all the condo was clean and a convenient location for us . If these issues are resolved our family would most likely use this condo again.

Nice place to stay.

The place was clean and spacious. Plenty of space for 6 adults and a 1yr old to spread out. There were more stairs then I expected but we used a chair to block them off from a curious toddler. I messaged the owner because we couldn't get wifi to work, never heard back. We did eventually get it to work but would have been nice to have gotten a reply back. Also the remote for the tv downstairs didn't work and that TV also kept cutting in and out, not sure it was bc the tv or cable company. Other than that we had a great stay.

Great location and accommodation.

The condo is a great location for our purposes. The double bed and master bedroom mattress were awful. We would like to have had a blow dryer and iron available. There were some issues with the internet which made it difficult to watch anything on the TV. We really like the place but felt a few upgrades would make this an a+ place to stay for my family. Knowing we have a couple of more trips to settle my father’s estate we would stay there again, but would prefer a few upgrades mentioned.

Owner and property manager easy to reach.

Check in was simple. We had an issue when we got there at 9:30p, called and got right ahold of owner and property manager who was very prompt about fixing our issue and making it right. Overall the house was perfect for What we needed with plenty of space. Cons- while these weren’t horrible it’s just a few things that could use some attention soon. house could good a good deep clean, new beds, and new carpet.

Beautiful Space

We had trouble checking in at the Athletic Center across the street as advised. They couldn’t find our reservation and were unclear what unit we were to be in (the paperwork I had was unclear). They were helpful in resolving the issue and “upgraded” us to a bigger place. The apartment was beautiful, well decorated and very clean. However it did not have some of the little amenities that most Vrbos I’ve been to before have. Little things like coffee for the coffee maker or a sponge and dish soap. It could be because this particular unit was not expecting guests. It felt a bit sterile but it’ served it’s purpose. Very comfortable bed!

Comfy Cozy!

Loved the location! Right next to grocery store and pizza place. Super comfortable and quiet. Perfect for everyone to spread out, play cards, eat, sleep, and watch tv. Slept like a baby. The one recommendation is you should make contact prior to arrival just to make sure you have access code or key. It was the only hiccup in the overall experience. Will definitely save this listing for the future. Great home, thank you.

Stay Away!!

Upon arriving at the property in St. Albans, the first obstacle was parking. The driveway is short and the street that it is on is narrow and one-way, making it a challenge to get my truck parked. The people that we were traveling with had to park at the sports complex due to the driveway situation. We could have worked with that. Heading up the front steps, the railing was terribly unsteady and did not appear to be anchored on to the steps very well. The code on the lock seemed to work fine (more on this later) and upon opening the front door, the place just plain smelled bad. Like it had a string of previous people that vaped in it and did not get cleaned. Stepping in, the carpet on the steps was matted and filthy. Obviously not cleaned for a while, much less vaccuumed. Heading up the stairs to the main level, the furniture in the living room was broken down and dirty. Heading into the kitchen, our shoes were sticking to the laminate floor, like they had not been cleaned in way too long. The floor in the dining area was the same. On top of this, there was a bag of trash on the deck from a previous person and the blinds were stained and dusty. Going up the stairs to the bedrooms, the carpet was again matted and dirty with obvious stains on many steps and the landing. In the main bathroom off the hallway, the floor had small pieces of toilet paper balled up on the floor. In addition to this, there were still spots in the toilet where someone obviously ate something that didn't agree with them and sprayed the back of the bowl. Disgusting. Heading into the master bedroom, at least the bed was made, but the floor in the attached master bath was again sticky and there was an oily haze all across the bathroom mirror, obviously not cleaned. In one of the other bedrooms, the bi-fold door on the closet was broken and upon opening it, it had a strong marijuana smell. On top of all of the above, there was visible dust on the tops of the door casings and on the air vents. After considering our options, we decided to cancel our second stay on the way back home and stay at a hotel in nearby Charleston. While checking in to the hotel, the person working the front desk said that they used to work for the cleaning crew that was responsible for this very property. They indicated that the crew was fired and they were unaware if anyone was actually cleaning this property. Do yourself a favor, get a hotel room in Charleston.

Grandfather’s 100th Birthday trip

I returned to St Albans to celebrate my grandfather’s 100th birthday. I have stayed 2 times in the first unit of these townhouses. No problems, I assumed this unit would be comparable. It was not.. It has a filthy floor. Absolutely disgusting carpet! Very, very stained and not vacuumed well or at all..And dirty, food stained kitchen floor. Yuck! I do not care as much about decor as I do cleanliness and comfort. So that takes us to the bedding. My 30yr old daughter concerned with sheets decided to wash sheets before sleeping on them. Found yellow stained unwashed mattress pad:/ and nasty pillows. There were not even pillows in one bedroom.I ended up going and buying $300 worth of cleaning supplies, sheets, pillows and blankets just to be able to sleep. Not acceptable.I just wanted to be able to enjoy my family and this special event and instead had to deal with this place. Picked this location because of convenience to my grandfather’s house. I will not be staying here next visit.

It all started when we arrived to check-in. I was told to check-in at the sports center next to the apartment. When we arrived the sports center had closed early. I messaged the property owner but got not response. After an hour of waiting with no response, I finally I tried calling the closed business to see if someone might answer. To my surprise someone answered. The person that answered explained they were already home for the day and was confused why I would check-in at their place of business. They asked me for my number and said they would have someone call me back. I finally got a return call, but the girl I spoke with had no idea what unit I had reserved. She guessed which unit it probably was (that's a scary sentence you just read, but it's very accurate). Luckily she was correct. Once we got inside we immediately noticed how warm it was. Yep, you guessed it... the a/c was broke (both the upstairs and downstairs units). We also noticed that the kitchen was not the same kitchen that was in the pictures. The appliances were old, white, and the fridge has multiple broken shelves. I called the lady back and told her about the a/c and the kitchen. She said that the pictures were incorrect and that I would have to wait until the next day for someone to came look at the a/c since it was after 5pm. At this point it was too late to look for another place to stay so we opened the windows and started unpacking. I wanted to connect my phone to the wifi but wouldn't you know it, it wasn't working either. We spend 2 of the 3 days with no working a/c and no wifi. I never once heard from the property owner, just someone the girl that worked for him. I messaged him multiple times requesting help and eventually asking for a partial refund. I got no response. This is by far the worst experience I have ever had. I would never think about staying here again and I recommend you not stay here either. Please, I don't care if this is your only option, stay somewhere else. This review is saving you a major headache and a terrible experience.

Dirty and Disorganized

Do not stay here! The confirmation email said to check in at the sports complex next door. The very nice kid there hadn’t been told to expect us, called someone who came 10-15 minutes later who also hadn’t expected us despite the reservation made months ago. That guy walked in on people staying in an adjoining unit unannounced. Then went to check the unit we had reserved which hadn’t been cleaned. He removed the trash and told us we’d have to wash the sheets ourselves and he’d make sure the cleaning fee was refunded. Without many options we agreed. We stripped the beds and did the laundry but that was only the beginning. The entire apartment was filthy. The carpet was disgusting and the bathrooms were awful. Hair in the shower and sink drains- no clean or even extra towels to use. I have never ever written a review like this. We have always had excellent experiences with short term rentals. I messaged the owner as the cleaning fee has still not been refunded and have not received ANY communication from them. We reserved this apartment for our return next week and have asked to cancel that reservation. We have asked for a full refund due to the inaccuracy of the listing and awful experience we had this weekend. If we do not receive a response I will be filing a complaint with VRBO. We have stayed in the unit next door operated by the same owners several times and always had excellent experiences. I was shocked at the state of this second unit. Please make this right!

When we arrived to the rental it was obvious the unit had not been cleaned. They were unable to get someone out to clean it that night so we had to clean it ourselves with the promise we would be refunded the cleaning fee. After 1 month of contacting the property management and the owner we have been ignored and received no refund. Very disappointed in how we have been treated.
