What makes Combate Beach Resort excellent is the outstanding staff service, their enthusiasm and readiness to help with a very friendly deameanor. Also they sent me texts with important info and link to the hotel amenities. The hotel is very well kept and very clean.
Our room was very basic and narrow but clean, beds very comfty (2 double beds big enough for 2 people each) and the AC was top notch and actually chilly so bring some warm pajamas. However the shower temp control was tricky and the bathroom door kept opening by itself (local ghosts? lol). We had a hybrid car and explored charging it but the cost was $40 which is a steep price.
One can't beat the location with a just 3 minute walk away to the tranquil combate beach and less than 10 minute walk to local restaurants. They have a well stocked all you can eat breakfast buffet for $14 per person, great cappucino and variety of morning beverages. The host (Johnny?) was super helpful with info about local eateries and places to visit, He was worth the $.
Santos Bar and Rest is a local hang out with basic food and reasonable prices, service was slow, so go with no rush. I had a cup of hearty fish soup for $1, lobster and conch filled empanadillas which were great, tostones de pana, sorrullitos and fried fish of the day. There's also a bar/eatery run by "Luichy's" that has delicious food. We had an outstanding "cuajito"salad and chicken sandwiches that we also very good as well. Service staff were awesome.
