Welcoming warm, home from home.

Ideal base for large group of friends or family. All bedrooms ensuite (always hot water), lovely lounge with roaring fire for a chilly November. Great base for exploring this area of France. Good transport links to explore further afield.

Lovely house in fabulous location

We all very much enjoyed our stay in this beautiful house. It was clean, peaceful and comfortable. The bedrooms were cool, even when the outside temperatures were high. There was also a lovely, large sitting room to spend time in, if the weather was not so good. The garden was beautiful and we ate most of our meals outside. Marie-Francoise was very helpful and gave us good recommendations for visits. We are still enjoying her rhubarb jam! Check-in and out were both very easy. The surrounding area was very interesting, with lots of places to visit. Highly reccomended!

Holiday in France

This is a very nice property with lots of history. Mrs Roy was on-site to assist us with our arrival. The property offers complete rest in a peaceful location. It is equipped with books, board games and an indoor play barn complete with table tennis. The property is completely enclosed and the nearest road is over 400m away so it is safe for young children to run around. The friendly donkeys on site are a big attraction for the young (and old). We all (aged 4 - 71) enjoyed our stay and left completely refreshed

Our stay in Berneuil-sur-Aisne

This property is delightful. The garden was well kept and a wonderful place to relax. The property itself has real character and charm, particularly the upstairs living room. The bedrooms were spacious and each one had a comfortable en-suite bathroom. The donkeys and cat added to the charm of the property. We spent nearly two weeks here and enjoyed every minute. It is just over an hour away from Paris and about 20 minutes away from a range of activities and various villages so there is plenty to do. We had a wonderful time here and highly recommend it!

Relaxing holiday

An interesting building with beautiful grounds. Peaceful with wonderful forests surrounding. Many places of interest to visit just an hour away by car. Easy to go by train to Paris from Compiègne- it takes less than an hour. Our host, Marie-Françoise was very friendly and ensured we had everything we needed. We spent 2 weeks at the property and had a wonderful holiday.

Beautiful Place for a Holiday

We had a wonderful week in little Berneuil-sur-Aisne. We had a late hiccough to our arrival, but Marie-Francoise was there to greet us and show us around despite the lateness of the hour. The house is really beautiful with all appliances that one could want. The children were entertained by the Donkeys, the table tennis table and the bikes. We played Petanque in the courtyard and had some memorable days out near Reims and in Pierrefonds. A great house in a lovely location - the only surprise was the industry on the Aisne river, but to be honest, this did not distract us from a wonderful holiday.

Charming!

We visited for one week with our daughter, son in law and their four children. The home is spacious with plenty of bedrooms and baths and a great room with fire place upstairs. The kitchen is well equipped and the outdoor space was great for the children. The resident donkeys were quite a hit!. The owner was gracious and very helpful. We did day trips and returned each evenings for a meal and family time. There is a Patisserie in the village an a Pizzeria too. Both of which we took advantage of. The location is quiet and lovely in a rural setting at the edge of a small village, but only a few mile from a major highways. Thank you Marie Francoise!

Beautiful, peaceful place to stay

This well appointed house is in a very quiet location close to Compiegne. An advantage is that the bedrooms are all on the ground floor along with a well appointed kitchen. No problems with getting heavy suitcases upstairs. Upstairs is a huge lounge and dining area with lots of games and books available. Our grandson loved the donkeys and the very friendly cat. We would highly recommend this property.

Alojamiento y entorno ideal para cualquiera que quiera descubrir una región llena de sorpresas

La Picardia (hoy parte del departamento de Hauts-de-France) destino turístico fue sin duda uno de los grandes descubrimientos que realizamos durante los siete días del mes de agosto en que nos alojamos en el Prieuré de Rochefort. El otro fue sin duda la propia casa. _Marie-Françoise, la propietaria fue amable y hospitalaria desde el primer momento, nos recibió con una hornada de galletas caseras y una selección de verduras y hortalizas de su huerto y nos aconsejó sobre las diferentes actividades y visitas que nos ofrecía la zona. La casa es ideal para un grupo como el nuestro, de dos familias con dos niños de 5 y 8 años cada una. Se trata de un convento reformado que ha conservado la personalidad y el carácter (y las paredes de piedra originales) adaptándose a las necesidades de sus nuevas funciones. La planta baja consta de 4 dormitorios, todos con baño, y una cocina de tipo office con lavavajillas en el centro de un comedor que hace las funciones de centro neurálgico del día a día. El primer piso es un espacio diáfano que conserva algunos elementos arquitectónicos de la construcción original y dispone de diferentes espacios: un segundo comedor, un salón para ver la televisión cómodamente junto a la chimenea y una última zona para la lectura y los juegos de mesa. Mención aparte merece la colección de libros en varios idiomas que ofrece Madame Roy y que permite improvisar cualquier lectura si se dispone de tiempo. Un pequeño WC equipado con lavadora completa la distribución del piso superior En el jardín y la entrada también encontraremos un granero equipado con todo lo necesario para lograr que a los niños no les haga falta salir de la casa para disfrutar de la estancia: bicicletas, mesa de ping pong, pelotas de fútbol, etc. El establo ubicado en la entrada Theodore y Galloper, los dos asnos que hicieron las delicias de los más pequeños que disfrutaron acariciándolos y alimentándolos con las zanahorias que Mari-Françoise nos daba. Sin olvidar a England, el gato de la casa, tan amable como el resto de inquilinos. La ubicación y el entorno fuero una de las grandes sorpresas del viaje. El pequeño pueblo de Berneuil-sur-Aisne es una base de operaciones ideal para conocer la región. Dispone de todos los servicios necesarios incluida un panadería que cuece excelentes croissants (se agotan muy temprano) y baguettes y una pizzería que te permite olvidarte de cocinar alguna noche. Recomendaría la casa y el entorno sin lugar a dudas.

Beautiful place, good location, lovely owner

We stayed for a week in August, a family of 7 ages between 5 and 70. Suited our needs perfectly. The house is a converted priory with loads of character. 4 bedrooms, all en-suite and a decent kitchen with a dishwasher and a large communal space upstairs with views across the meadow down to the local village. Upstairs there is also a small wc, sink and washing machine. Lovely walled garden and seating area outside and a huge barn adjoining the gite which has a table tennis table and bikes. And small BBQ. The village is easy to walk to (about 6-7 mins on foot) or you can cycle. Track up to Rochefort is quiet, as is lane and you can do so safely with young children. There is a superb bakery (you need to get there early or it’s sold out) and a good pizzeria next door which opens in the evening. Drive through Berneuil-sur-Aisne back to main road and you come to Troily Breuil which has a small Carrefour which is well stocked or an Intermarche at the next roundabout for a larger shop. There is also a fuel station here as well as another back in the village. All within 5 mins drive. Nearby we can recommend Parc Canopee (a ‘Go-Ape’ style tree top activity centre) which is ideal for smaller and older kids and adults alike. Staff are excellent and on hand to help if you get in a jam! Only about 15-20 mins drive from here. Also within 7kms is the stunning Pierrefonds with it’s fabulous castle, medieval town and boating lake. Loved it there. We travelled to Disney on 2 days, it should take about 90 mins but depends on day and time with traffic on roads as you get nearer to Paris and CDG airport of course. On our last day we found Parc da Coupaville near Soissons, about 25 mins drive. On a nice day it is great for under 10’s. Lots of traditional wooden games and my nephews spent 3 hours happily exploring these and the maze. Good old-fashioned fun. Mme Roy is a delight to deal with, she gave us some of her delicious home-made jam and some herbs and veg from her garden when we arrived. Finally, the donkeys deserve a special mention. Theodore and Galoper (sp.?) are just fab. Friendly and always happy to take a carrot and a pat from you. Will miss their lovely faces greeting us each day and their velvety noses. We all loved them and they are a real bonus. Would not hesitate to recommend this property for anyone who wants a peaceful base in beautiful surroundings to explore the area.

Everything was as we hoped it would be!

Despite the cold weather, our welcome was warm! Mme Roy greeted and gave us the grand tour, even making sure we had a jar of her lovely home made jam for our breakfast croissants! Having arrived on a Sunday to find all the supermarkets en route closed, she insisted on giving us a bottle of wine from her cellar to go with the dinner we had brought over from home. Prieure de Rochefort is a beautiful place set in lovely surroundings with walks for the active on the doorstep. Compiègne is only a few minutes away by car with excellent rail connections to Paris Gare du Nord. Do go to Pierrefonds, not just for the chateau but for a visit to Patisserie Bigot for their wonderful macaroons. Visiting in February was maybe asking for trouble as the weather was really cold and we had to make full use of the heating as well as the wood burner, any future visits will be made in warmer weather!

Picture book perfect

The facilities at the Prieuré de Rochefort were fantastic. The accommodation is lovely and very spacious with that 'je ne sais quois' French style. I am not sure that the website pictures really do it justice. It easily accommodated our party of seven. We were lucky enough to have very good weather and were able to spend the warm evenings sitting out in the garden which is equally atmospheric. All the necessary luxuries were present - warm water, a dishwasher, wi-fi and a table tennis table! We only had 5 nights but were able to fit in loads including a trip to Memetz wood and the Thepval memorial (in memory of my husband's great grandfather who died there), Pierrefonds castle (including a pedalo ride for some) and the fantastic Chantilly chateau and gardens (of interest to fans of history, art and James Bond). One day we split up some to go to Amiens (for the cathedral and jewelry shopping) and others to the fascinating Wellington Quarry in Arras, followed by the Canadian Memorial and the French memorial at Notre Dame de Lorette. On the last day we visited the Armistice Museum which again contained so much of interest. It is just a few miles away from the Prieuré de Rochefort. In summary, there was so much to do that I am afraid we did not have enough time to fully enjoy the facilities at the accommodation. Anibal was very helpful in his instructions and humoured the fact that I remained disorientated regarding the day of the week. He also gave us a wine recommendation! The donkeys are very characterful and we were delighted to hear that one of them was Irish (as we live in Belfast). My husband even encountered a wild boar one evening as he drove up through the forest. Overall I would recommend staying here for 2 weeks.

Relaxing, quiet area with lots of space

We really enjoyed our stay. It was a relaxing week for our family of 4. The property has 4 good size double bedrooms - each with en suite. Kids loved feeding the donkeys and there are some nice cycling tracks near by.

Experiencia inolvidable!

La propiedad Rochefort fue una experiencia inolvidable lo mejor de la campiña Francesa. Un lugar pacífico y apto para relajarse, donde pueden ir niños y jugar afuera. Las habitaciones son muy bonitas muy cómodas todo muy limpio y acogedor. Hay Panaderías y Supermercados cerca, ademas de atractivos pueblos muy cercanos donde hacer turismo local. Elisa Taylor - HONDURAS, Central America. La Sra. Marie Francoise muy gentil y siempre pendiente de que tuviéramos lo necesario a nuestra disponibilidad. Lo recomiendo!

Fabulous house in a little known (to us) part of France

We recently spent a week at Le Prieuré de Rochfort and had a wonderful time. The house was exactly as advertised (actually better than we could imagine). We cooked, had lunch in the garden, had friends to stay - ate, drank and laughed. This is a part of France we had not visited before but it is very beautiful with lovely little towns around to visit, a nice market in Pierrefonds (we can highly recommend the butcher there who is more than accommodating) and specially cut a lamb shoulder for my husband who was making a Navarin d'agneau (very delicious). The property backs on to the Compiègne Forest which is very peaceful and was just bursting with spring - the bluebells were just starting to bloom which gave a shadow of blue to the forest floor. We visited the Canadian National memorial at Vimy on April 9th, the 99th anniversary of the battle and were humbled yet again. In short this is everything you could want in a holiday - a most amiable hostess and her extremely helpful henchman Anibale who looked after us when Marie-Françoise was not there, an entertaining donkey and Highland cow, a friendly cat and a most beautiful house and garden. We were enchanted.

We hebben een heerlijke week gehad. Wij waren met 3 stellen en een baby van 10 maanden. De accommodatie is prachtig, maar wel gehorig. Het ligt in een rustige omgeving. Er waren een aantal fietsen aanwezig. Ook was er een Tafeltennistafel. Voor de baby is er een campingbedje en stoeltje. De bakkerij op loopafstand in het dorp. We werden vriendelijk ontvangen Door de eigenaresse. Een aanrader.

Wunderschönes Landhaus

Wir haben mit unseren jungen erwachsenen Kindern eine herrliche Woche Frankreich im schönen Landhaus Rochefort verbracht. Tolles großes Haus mit vier Schlafzimmern mit jeweils eigenem Bad, einer geräumigen und gemütlichen Wohnküche und im Obergeschoss mit riesigem Aufenthaltsraum. Im wunderschön angelegtem kleinen Garten konnten wir herrlich entspannen. Die Tischtennisplatte in der Scheune hat uns auch bei schlechtem Wetter die gute Stimmung erhalten! Im Haus gibt es alles, was man braucht, nur für aufwendiges Kochen darf man keine vollständige Ausstattung erwarten. Ein Supermarkt sowie mehrere Bäckereien sind im Nachbarort zu finden. Berneuil-sur-Aisne ist ein toller Ausgangspunkt (mit dem Auto) für Fahrten in die schöne Umgebung. Besonders beeindruckt waren wir von der imposanten Burganlage in Pierrefonds (hier gibt es auch viel gute Gastronomie), aber natürlich sind auch Reims und Compiègne sehr sehenswerte Ausflugsziele. Wir kommen gerne wieder! Merci à Mme Roy et M. Anibal pour tout vos efforts, le gâteau fait à maison et les courgettes délicieuses du jardin!

Beau séjour!

Un court séjour dans une belle propriété, très agréable jardin et maison spacieuse. Une région aussi riche en activités diverses. Merci pour les gentilles attentions de Madame Roy, confiture et bouquet de fleurs.

Un week-end entre amis dans ce joli prieuré

Nous avons passé un long week-end avec un couple d’amis et leurs enfants dans ce gîte très confortable. Un très bon accueil par Mme Roy et Annibal, de jolies attentions tout au long du séjour … le gîte est situé en lisière de forêt pour de belles balades, de nombreux jeux pour les enfants, bref on recommande !
