Great hotel, but no AC

Stayed at the Scandic Torget two times on a recent trip. Have stayed at the Torget several times in the past in non-summer months, and didn't realize that the hotel has no AC. On both stays, the weather was quite warm and our hotel rooms were even warmer - and no way to get a breeze through the room. The hotel staff was sympathetic, but they didn't have enough fans to lend. So, we endured a total of 3 very warm nights. Everything else about the hotel is lovely - good breakfast, helpful and informative staff, perfect location in the heart of Bergen, and great rooms for non-summer stays. I will definitely stay at the Scandic Torget when we visit Bergen again in December, but I'll find another hotel for summer visits.

Great breakfast and the overall room was great. However, the entire building was hot and our room in particular seemed to be overly hot as well. The thermostat didn’t even work. Granted, there was a hot spell of 29 in Bergen during our stay, but a working fan or a working thermostat would have been appreacited.

Very close to tourist sites and dock where cruises let assemblers off so crowded and loud at times. Shower head mechanism broke so couldn’t move it up and down and no one available in weekend to fix it -very odd for a hotel. Otherwise fine.

When we booked, we chose a room based on what the actual site for the hotel shared for a 3 sleeper. It is an older historic building that has been renovated, so we did expect some variations of rooms. The first room we received had a great water view but the ceiling had low ceiling slants that were impossible for my tall husband to move through without hitting his head. The second room offered was extremely small where we couldn’t move between beds without hitting someone’s feet and one person could not see the TV at all. The third room was bigger but had only under the bed storage for bags with the clothes (no closets at all). Plus, no phones in the room at all to call the front desk. The staff was super helpful to find a room that would work but if that wasn’t available, it would have been a tough 10 day stay. I would confirm the room and ask for one with a desk if you want space to move around. The brunch is extra but was wonderful and worth the money. Again, staff was AMAZING and very helpful! Just be aware of room space variations and lack of storage for clothes. Great location and very safe and clean.

Worse place to stay in Bergen

Scandic Torget Bergen was a complete disaster. This hotel is not suitable for humans, let alone paying guests. The room was cramped and stifling, with no air conditioning, no fan, and no ventilation. To top it off, our only window opened directly onto a disgusting trash area, making it impossible to air out the room without bringing in the smell of garbage. There were no basic amenities — no toothbrushes, no lotion, nothing but a few sad wall-mounted soaps. It’s shocking how unprepared this hotel is for travelers. Even worse, housekeeping doesn’t clean your room unless you sign up the night before — by 11 PM! No one told us this at check-in, so we came back after a long day to an untouched room. How is that acceptable at a hotel charging these rates? The whole place feels cheap and indifferent to the guest experience. Uncomfortable, unaccommodating, and completely lacking in hospitality. One of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. Do yourself a favor — stay anywhere else.

Down in the Dumps at Scandic

Had four night stay. After check in we left hotel for dinner. Came back to find the door to our room unlocked. From that point on we needed help to get door locked. Also hotel has no air conditioning and we hit a very hot spell in Bergen which made sleeping difficult as room was quite warm. I could go on and on with the problems but why bother as we will never stay at the hotel again. Further, we will never stay at any Scandic branded hotel.

The location on this hotel is fantastic!!! In my opinion best you could have, you are in the center to choices to go left and right anyway you want awesome location, and delicious breakfast. Day trips starts only step away from the hotel and across the street is a traveling information, that they can book you trips, thickets and they are very informative. Enjoy visiting Bergen, it is a beautiful, beautiful city!

Brilliant location on the quay near Fish Market with views over the harbour to Bryggen. Easy walks to the centre and Fløybanen funicular. Ferries to the fjords depart just outside the hotel. Convenient access to/from the airport - Flybuss stop nearby and short walk to the light rail. Staff, rooms and breakfast were all fantastic. Would recommend for a short break or base to visit the fjords.

This is a minimalist hotel with very spartan amenities. If you’re expecting an experience similar to the US, you will not find it here. The rooms are small. There is one small chair in our room. There was no traditional closet. There was no folding valet upon which to set your luggage. The bed was soft like a marshmallow and gave me backaches every morning. The “folding” shower was so small that I couldn’t wash any body part below my thighs (I am 6’3” tall) because my head would hit one of folding shower panels and it would pop open. The staff was great and the breakfast buffet was awesome. The location is also great for many attractions in Bergen.
