Downtown Bar Harbor - 3 BD/2 BA - Big Porch and Yard, Steps from Village Green
Located in downtown Bar Harbor, just two short blocks from the Village Green, our house is the perfect getaway for a couple, a family, or a group of friends! The in-town location means nothing is more than a 10-minute walk from the front door, including restaurants, shopping, the waterfront, and the Island Explorer (free) shuttle buses - with numerous stops within Acadia! This historic "cottage" (ca. 1900) was designed by noted regional architect Fred L. Savage. There's even an historic marker at the end of the driveway!
We have AIR CONDITIONING!!! Each of the three bedrooms upstairs now have wall-mounted units that provide cooling (and heating) controlled via remote. The living room has its own unit, too!
The house itself is two stories, with the bedrooms upstairs and living areas and kitchen on the ground floor. We have a large front porch with a picnic table, and several Adirondack chairs. The kitchen is equipped with a full-size refrigerator, a four-burner gas stove, two-basin sink, and a dishwasher. Small appliances include a microwave, toaster, and coffee maker.
We have plates, utensils, cups and glasses, pots and pans, and anything else needed to make and eat a meal. The dining room showcases the original wood floors and paneling, and a bay window with a bench seat. The dining room table can accommodate four people with ease, and the picnic table is a comfortable six. Leaves to expand the dining room table are available upon request.
The Front bedroom looks out onto one of the largest non-waterfront yards in town, and features a king size bed, two closets, two dressers, and two accent chairs. There is a door to an adjacent balcony "sun-room" with a huge window overlooking the side yard and trees. The balcony can also be accessed from the Middle bedroom, which features a queen-sized bed, closet, and dresser. The Third bedroom has two west-facing windows for great afternoon light, a full-sized bed with a full-sized trundle, a closet, and dresser. The bathroom upstairs is also west-facing, with a tiled counter-top, and a tub/shower. The linen closet is across from the Third bedroom, and is stocked with extra linens and blankets, additional sheets, and plenty of towels.
There is TV and an AppleTV (or a Google Chromecast) you may log into, and house-wide WiFi internet. The password is located on the refrigerator. A travel crib is available for guests with infants. Smoke/carbon monoxide detectors are placed throughout the house, and there are two fire extinguishers (one upstairs, one in the kitchen). A washer and dryer are located in the basement, should you need to do a load.
We have plenty of FREE off-street parking; a hot commodity in Bar Harbor! The yard is big; a bit shy of a half-acre. The house is in a residential neighborhood, but is only one lot removed from Main Street. Atlantic Avenue is not a through-street, so traffic is minimal. People do tend to walk down the street because it's pretty, and because the historical marker at the end of the driveway is part of a Town-wide history project.
If you want to explore Acadia, the best option is the Island Explorer shuttle system. They are FREE (donations accepted), have dedicated stops at all major points of interest, and the driver will stop and let you out along the way if you ask nicely. The shuttles have bike racks, but those fill up quickly, so it's good to be early. The shuttle "depot" is at the Village Green, next to the fire station.
On the hall table guests will find a book of local recommendations on everything from where to get the best breakfast, to where to rent bicycles or kayaks, and includes recommended hikes, and points of interest.
CONSIDERATIONS If you want to smoke, please do so outside and away from the house. The house is adjacent to a working bed and breakfast; please try to observe quiet time after 9pm. Individuals with mobility issues may find the stairs up to the porch a challenge, as there is no handrail.
A bicycle touring company, Vermont Bicycle Tours (VBT), stores extra bicycles in the garage adjacent to the house. The guides occasionally come down the driveway to load/unload bikes, and we have a schedule of those occurrences listed in the house, for your information.
If you have requests for specific accessibility needs, please contact the property using the information on the reservation confirmation received after booking.

Lovely home right in the heart of Bar Harbor. The location is perfect and just steps to so many restaurants and shops and boutiques. Our party of 6 retirees really enjoyed this lovely home. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Even though we didn't cook much the kitchen was stocked with everything a person would need to prepare a full meal. The 3 upstairs bedrooms were perfect and there were lots of pillows and blankets available to suit individual needs. The host Stephanie very responsive and was easily reachable when we had a couple of questions.I highly recommend this property if you're looking for a great place to stay in Bar Harbor where you can walk to nearly everything. We had such a great time!

The location of this property could not be more perfect - right in the heart of downtown Bar Harbor, with a coffee shop just right behind the house! Our family of 2 young children loved this house and it fit all of our needs. Private and quiet space while still walking distance to everything you'd want and need.

We had a WONDERFUL stay at Vista Cottage. We all agreed this was our favorite family vacation. House is beautiful and we loved the personal touches and detailed binder Stephanie leaves for guests. Location from downtown is literally 5 minutes and we loved jumping on the easily accessible bus from the Village to get into the park. Our only recommendation (to the extent possible) is that a grill be added for BBQs for easy dinners. Hugest thanks, Stephanie! We will be returning and recommending Vista to friends and family!

This "cottage" is a jewel, definitely the best place to stay in Bar Harbor! The location is so wonderful, just off the busy streets tucked back on a very spacious lot. We could relax on the wonderful large porch and not be seen from the street! It is so private and quiet, a little oasis of calm, yet only a couple blocks from the start of the busy downtown area, making it so convenient to walk everywhere. Stephanie is a wonderful host, very available for any questions or to resolve any issues that might arise. She made check in so simple! There is a fully updated kitchen with everything you could possibly need. Nice large bedrooms well-stocked with linens, towels and whatever else you might want. A beautiful old house with so much charm and personality. We will definitely be staying here on our next trip to the area. Thank you so much, Stephanie, for providing such a wonderful home away from home!

Homey old house in the perfect location
Bar Harbor is an adorable little tourist town on the doorstep of Acadia National Park, a stunning national treasure. This home could not be better located for enjoying both of these to the full, being steps away from the village green, the shore path, and tons of delightful local eateries. We had a minor mishap on arrival, as there was no key where we expected it to be, but Stephanie got in touch within 15 mins and resolved the situation right away. She was responsive and helpful and there were tons of thoughtful little touches throughout the home that made our trip easy and comfortable. As of June 2025 there is a small building site one street over, which occasionally created some annoying noise as we sat on the lovely porch, but this was a minor annoyance on an otherwise wonderful vacation. Highly recommended!

We had a very nice stay and Stephanie was quick to respond to all questions. The house is in a quiet location 1/2 a block off of the main strip. We could walk to everything and didn't have to be concerned about finding parking. The house was very clean and we had everything as listed. Although the house is a little older and has some quirks, they were very minor and will not stop us from staying there again. Thank you Stephanie!

Perfect Location
Loved everything about our stay in Bar Harbor. With leaves hitting their peak and the MDI marathon, the location could not have been better. The town was busy but being able to park at our place and walk everywhere was perfect. The home was spacious for our family of five. Small touches like local beer in the fridge and scented candles in each room added to the experience.

Beautiful historic home in the heart of Bar Harbor
Our family had a wonderful stay here! It was the perfect place for us. The home is located in the heart of downtown Bar Harbor, walkable to everywhere in town. We really enjoyed the front porch and loved eating breakfast out there. The house was a fine old home, incredibly clean and well taken care of. There is even a trundle bed in one of the bedrooms so our kids were able to share the room without having to share the bed. The host was incredibly responsive and helpful. She is very organized and helped make the stay very comfortable for us.

We loved our weeklong stay in this gorgeous home. It has been lovingly kept and had everything we needed and more for a comfortable family vacation. The owner’s binder full of suggestions for things to do, as well as instructions, were clear and helpful. We loved relaxing on the porch, steps away from Main Street but also tucked away in our own quiet space. A perfect place to stay while enjoying Bar Harbor and Acadia.

Peaceful oasis in the center of town
Four kids and three adults had room to spare in this gracious old home in Bar Harbor, walking distance from EVERYTHING in town, including the ocean. Set back from the street and surrounded by an acre (?) of lawn, this charming home was well equipped with all that you need; generous supplies of linens, a washer and drier, toiletries, two coffee pots etc. The rooms all had such character; the three bedrooms were lovely and had special connecting spaces. The dining room was a masterpiece of architecture and wood panelling. We had a lovely long weekend exploring Acadia and Bar Harbor and truly enjoyed our stay in this home.
