Run down but comfortable

Really comfy bed and nice toiletries provided. Breakfast was ok. But was a bit run down and grubby. Carpet was pretty grim in the room and toilet bowl needed a bleach! Tea and coffee provided was quite cheap. Compared to competitors at that price like the premier inn it felt a bit like I overpaid. Id say the photos outlining what looked a bit luxurious was a bit misleading. No phone in room to contact reception. But all in all fine. You get what you pay for.

General

Nice place stayed before Breakfast 8£ on hotels.com www but no times so waited until I checked in then they charged me £10 ! Also they had recently refurbished the room but the tv didn’t work reported it long walk back to reception as there are no phones in the rooms it took 30 mins for someone to come fit it - good result There was a “prom” night on so lots of noise in the green space till late Access to the carpark is tight not that they can do much about it but I’m sure if you’ve a big or wide car it won’t fit

The hotel room was dirty with stains on the carpet, dirty shower curtain, and toilet bowl. The towel rail wouldn't switch off, and the bed had a winter quilt. In june. The staff werent interested when we complained. I would advise people not to use it.

Whately Hall hotel

Stay was pleasant reception man was friendly was a bit disappointed I didn’t get a bath in my en suite when I asked at reception lady on the computer was a bit annoyed she said I’ve already done the schedule but the room they showed me was on the list for renovation so stuck with the original room shower pressure was poor and there where definitely pigeons nesting in the roof space in the hall outside my room number 60 the breakfast was very nice and lots of variety over all a nice stay and listening to st Mary’s church bells Sunday morning was a lovely experience

The front of the building is stunning, the interior/reception is a little tired but okay. The issue came when we saw our room, it was awful. I complained to reception and they were lovely but there was little they could do (they seemed used the the complaint I was airing). They offered that the cleaners would return, which they did but that was only a cursory clean. I was told the main house rooms were refurbished and our room area was not, however, this does not mean the rooms have to be dirty - think dust to all carpet edges, tops of sockets, stained tiles (not just seals) stained carpets. The most hilarious part was that the bath's hot tap had been fitted too close to the wall and so could not be turn on. The shower was okay but not adjustable. It was too late to change having just done a full day exploring, tired and hungry, we decided to stay as the beds appeared clean and comfortable and it was just one night! I have to commend the staff as they were all lovely, I would say the breakfast is okay too. They simply should not be offering these rooms until refurbished as I am sure the feedback/complaints must be hurting their business
it was not just the grout it was the tiles themselves
stained carpets/ iron burn but other stains too
radiator think with dust
carpet edges thick with dust

Was a smelly room with evidence of a smoker in there previously. Receptionist was quite blunt when we complained, however did change our room foc. The whole hotel needs a refurb, carpets and curtains should be replaced. Crockery & cutlery do not match, also needs replacing. Such a shame because from the outside this hotel looks lovely.

The room had recently been refurbished, so bed and bathroom were both very new and inside the room was clean and fresh. I have stayed here before and, despite there now being new bathroom fittings, the water pressure is so low that it is difficult to have a shower. Although Thames Water are responsible for the mains pressure, the hotel should consider addressing this issue (pups or header tank). The corridors connecting to the main hotel building and breakfast room are tired, but I assume these are part of an ongoing refurbishment. Reasonable price for the quality of room and breakfast.

We were disappointed. We had to change bedrooms as the bathroom towel rail was stuck ON, and it was hot weather. The new room was a suite, but shabby. The taps in the bathroom had black dirt at the base, which I had to clean off. The carpet was stained. The Bathroom stank of cigarette smoke.

The property looks very grand and in a great location. Its only when you're inside that you can see from the renovation works that most common areas and rooms are in urgent need of a make over. Saying that, the cleanliness of the rooms and in particular the bathrooms was quite poor. I'd suggest that someone checks after the cleaners have finished, shower heads with so much lime build up that the water struggles to come out is basic. Once cleaned and with so much lime scale on my hands the head was acceptable. Stains on the side of the bath that appeared watered down blood, hair on the floor and door handles and door surrounds filthy just shouldn't happen. Breakfast was acceptable, very hectic and rushed. To have one lady trying her best to serve everyone and look after cleaning tables when a team member lets the hotel down just isn't fair. We felt for the lady and support from another part of the hotel should have been provided. Average stay, nothing to say "yes we need to go back there".
