If you’re looking for the nexus where urban meets nature in Atlanta, then this is the place for you! You’ll hear cars. You’ll hear birds. But you what you’ll hear most is your peaceful sigh of relief and contentment as you lock yourself away in the coziest of spaces.
About location: Kort’s Kottage is a cozy getaway from the hustle of greater Atlanta ITP, without the isolation of being outer-OTP. Situated in Stonecrest, 5 minutes from interstates I-20 and 15 minutes from I-285, Kort’s Kottage is a prime location for having access to the busy ITP Atlanta metro without having to compromise the serenity of the OTP Atlanta metro. It’s located in the “East Corridor”, so the cities of Decatur, Stone Mountain, Tucker, and Avondale Estates (to name a few) are within 30-45 minutes, Atlanta traffic time. The MARTA train stations Indian Creek and Kensington can be reached in 20 minutes by car and have ample free parking, if you’d prefer to take the train to ITP and not battle Atlanta traffic. Uber and Lyft do service this area.
About food: Yes! Instacart and DoorDash deliver here. So, whether you’re getting groceries to cook/bake in a capable kitchen or satisfy a craving from your fav eatery, the dining area and private deck are wonderful places to get your food on! If you’re interested in going to an establishment, restaurants in the Stonecrest area are a 5 minute drive, with more food options in neighboring Conyers, just 15 minutes away. Grocery chains like Publix, Kroger, Aldi, and Lidl are within a 10-15 minute drive.
About fun: Spot-on for the outdoors enthusiast! Kort’s Kottage is adjacent to the Arabian Mountain National Heritage site, minutes away from state recognized Panola Mountain, and 20 minutes away from state recognized Stone Mountain. It’s also a five minute drive from one of the major entrances to Arabia Mountain. The area is filled with walking/hiking/biking trails that connect with other state parks between DeKalb, Henry, and Rockdale counties. Additionally, county parks and recreation centers are nearby for your enjoyment.
More, if you’re into self-care, there are several nail salons, hair salons, day spas, health/nutrition stores, etc., within a 5-20 minute radius.
About shopping: You can definitely find what you need from boutique shops to major chains 5 minutes away at Stonecrest Mall and another 10 minutes past that at Conyers. Instacart also delivers clothing and goods.
Be sure to check out Privi, a collective establishment of businesses in Stonecrest Mall that offers things like spa services, MMA fighting classes, juices and foods, coffee, boutique goods, etc. Privi is community centered and hosts several opportunities for families, couples, and individuals, encouraging participation in parties, movie nights, and other events.
About learning: More than 35 institutions of higher learning (college, universities, and technical schools) can be accessed within 45 minutes of Stonecrest, including but not limited to, Agnes Scott College, Luther Rice Seminary, Emory University, Georgia State University, Georgia Gwinnett College, and Gwinnett Technical College.
Be sure to check out the Flat Rock Archives—an historical homestead dedicated to educating the public about Historically Black/African American peoples. Tours are conducted, including a cemetery tour which acknowledges the historically all-Black, formally rural area. There rests generations of people from slavery to modernity.
There are also local establishments that offer community classes for cooking, baking, cross fit, line dancing, Pilates, etc. While you’re here, get connected with community! It can really elevate your stay.
About health: There are 7 major medical centers/acute care within 45 minutes of Stonecrest. Emory Hillandale, part of the Emory University Hospital network, is less than a 10 minute drive from Kort’s Kottage, offering an easy commute for those medical professionals who need immediate access to this facility. Kaiser Permanente and Piedmont Hospital locations are also nearby.
About growing, peace, and patience: If you are in an industry where you work remotely, are having to travel for business, need a retreat to complete a project, heal, or just gain some inner clarity and peace, Kort’s Kottage is an ideal place for you! Work from the study area; rest in a comfy bed; take a long, hot shower; chill on the deck surrounded by trees; cook/bake in a full kitchen; enjoy a meal at the table; sip some-something on the deck, curl up on the sofa with one of the books from a featured author (I’m a writer, poet, and professor, so I take the book choices seriously!). Whatever you do, do you.
About Kort’s Kottage: It can host overnight guests of up to 4 people, though no more than 2-3 occupants are recommended, as the space is quaint. Two marked and dedicated parking spaces are available, though no other parking for Kort’s Kottage is. This is a standalone dwelling on the back portion of my property where I reside in the main house.
This is not a family-friendly, pet-friendly establishment; the hope is that Kort’s Kottage will have a sibling in the next few years, which will be amenable to those situations. Kids and pets need their space. And cozy (in these instances) doesn’t cut it.
Kort’s Kottage is a one level home with living, dining, study, private deck, and laundry. There is a dedicated small bedroom with adjoining bath (also accessible off the kitchen). Those clients who require space to maneuver due to physical limitations may find it difficult in certain spaces. Please be aware that the current configuration of Kort’s Kottage was done to try and maximize space and is unable to do more.
