Beautiful Villa with panoramic views

Lorraine & Stuart were fantastic hosts before & during our stay. A beautiful property with lovely views across to Chania & White Mountains. Very comfortable and amazing pool. (Largest we have had to date). Everything you could need is available making it a home from home experience. Lots of places to discover just a short car journey away including restaurants and beaches as well as supermarkets all in easy reach.

Perfect location, great hosts

This is a beautiful location with a stunning view. It's very peaceful but only a few minutes drive from Almyrida which is a small town but has an incredible number of wonderful and friendly restaurants and a lovely beach. From the villa you can also walk to a village which has a couple of little restaurants. The pool was a really great size and the outdoor pool shower was appreciated. I loved the garden with lots of little hidden areas and filled with beautiful flowers and plants, lots of old olive trees and a very impressive lemon tree. The beds were much bigger than they look in the photos and mattresses were very comfortable. Our hosts were very helpful and responsive but not at all intrusive. The wi-fi was also very reliable and fast which is great for such a rural villa. We missed having some kind of outdoor sofa type seating but that certainly wouldn't detract us from coming back and highly recommending this villa that gave us such a great holiday! Thank you!

A little slice of Cretan paradise

Villa Tamos is a wonderful, well-equipped, spacious villa in a beautiful setting and we absolutely loved our time there. The pool is as perfect as the view and grounds and Stuart and Lorraine were super-helpful hosts. The villa is well located for exploring Crete and the restaurants/bars/shops of Almyrida are only ten minutes drive away. There is a long unmade track to the property, which needs driving with care, but it's well worth it, and we hope to return one day! Thank you for everything. 10/10 from the Ross Family.

Idyllic stay in the heart of Crete

We had a wonderful time! The house and property are located on a hill in western Crete within easy driving distance of many sites including Chania - we planned a lot of touring. We were able to hike the Imbros Gorge and beaches at Elafinisi and Balos (highly recommended!), among other outings. The house is essentially new, and has all the facilities we were looking for - we especially loved meals and enjoying drinks poolside! The lemon tree's fruits were a bonus!!! The sunset views are surprisingly spectacular, overlooking the hills and sea! The house is equipped with three bedrooms, including one double bed and two rooms with two single beds each - all rooms were comfortably air conditioned. Although we normally had to drive almost anywhere given our agenda, it was nice to walk a couple of times to Douliana for dinner: Heloistasi restaurant was a nice find! The only drawback are the roads to approach (wasn't really an issue for us), honestly a general issue in Crete off the main roads (!!): expect about 2km of challenging off-road driving to approach the house.

Fantastic villa in peaceful surroundings - with great pool.

Communication with Lorraine and Stuart was excellent. Our visit was in September 2020 - and there had been a lot of uncertainty as to whether we would be able to travel to Crete due to Covid 19. The villa was relatively easy to find with the directions supplied - although we did also use a satnav. As other reviews state - some of the roads leading to it are unpaved, steep and uneven in places - however we were in a rented Citreon C1 which coped without a problem. The villa was spotlessly clean and well maintained. It is spacious and has adequate cooking facilities. The pool is a great size, was always warm as it benefits from sun for most of the day. The views from pool area and the balconies were a pleasure to wake up to. The villa is well situated to visit the western half of Crete. The village of Douliana which is approx. a 1 kilometre away has 2 reasonably priced restaurants - food in both was very tasty and plentiful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the villa - very relaxing and would highly recommend it.

Unbelievable

We did our homework...Villa Tamos is by far the nicest HomeAway property we have ever rented. (Barcelona, Mallorca, Rome, 3X Miami Beach, Manhattan) It is much nicer than pictured and far nicer than any of the reviews described it. The view, the house, the property, the pool and the location are superb. Lorraine lives close by and and will go out of her way to help in any way she can. My girlfriend spent literally all day long in the pool. which was perfect temperature. Thank goodness we had a car, as the walk into town is a little too strenuous. We never ventured farther than Almyida; there were very nice restaurants there right along the water. We fully intend to return. Thank you Mr & Mrs Baker Pavlina from Prague & Jim from Pennsylvania

Villa Tamos 22/5/19 to 5/6/19

The villa is well appointed and comfortable. The pool is delightful. Above all the situation is wonderful with views to the sea and to the mountains. The sea is only 15 minutes away for sunbathing, swimming and relaxing. The notes for the property were useful and include a reliable guide to the local, and not so local, restaurants. Chania is an interesting town, and Heraklion, with Knossos and the museum should not be missed.

Stunning, private, peaceful location and wonderfully equipped villa!

We absolutely loved staying up in the hills above Almyrida. The villa is so welcoming and so brilliantly equipped, that we sometimes found it hard to actually go out and see the sights of Crete! We all appreciated the peace, the beautiful lush garden and hillsides, the sheep bells, the cicada, and of course the amazing pool. We walked to both local villages -Douliana and Gavalochora- and had great meals in both places. The folk museum in Gavalochora is exquisite. Favourite taverna there is the one in the main square opposite the bakery. One highlight of the trip was travelling over the mountains to Elafonisi, swimming in crystal clear, warm waters (even in late October - although we are Scottish and used to freezing lochs, so 'warm' is probably relative!) and buying honey and beeswax from the locals. Everything about the villa and the island was wonderful. Highly recommend! Thank you, Lorraine, for all your advice and tips prior to arrival. Good luck with your ongoing projects in Crete. 🙂

Beautiful Villa in a stunning location

Villa Tamos is beautiful - very clean, fully equipped, comfortable, gorgeous location with an amazing huge and warm pool. My family of 4 had a wonderful 2 weeks there this August and we were all very sad to leave! Communication with the owner was excellent before and during our stay and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. The fascinating Roman ruins at Aptera are only 25 minutes away and we were spoilt for choice for beaches. An amazing holiday!!!

Fantastic holiday in a beautiful villa in a stunning location. We have visited Almyrida for many years and stayed in a number of different villas, but Villa Tamos is definitely one of the most beautiful and well-equipped villas we've ever stayed in, the pool was a huge hit, and the location was absolutely stunning. We very much hope to return soon.

Perfect for peace and quiet

This is my 2nd stay at the villa and both times have been fantastic. Gardens are beautiful and well presented. Pool is great and nice and warm when we stayed in mid may. Views over souda bay and White mountains spectacular. Plenty of room in the villa for our party of 5. Absolutely delightful stay.

Nice villa with an excellent pool, very good value for the money paid.

Villa with a large amount of land and wonderful views situated down some unmade roads in a remote, hilly location which meant we felt on our own which was good. Spacious, warm pool, just right for a family, so good, we only went in the sea once. Had three BBQs in our week's stay, owner might consider building a brick built BBQ which would have made it perfect. All in all excellent value for money.

Lovely well equipped villa with beautiful pool and awesome views

I've been self catering for 25 years and this is the nicest place I've stayed. The views are breathtaking of the white mountains from the one side and the bay of souda from the other. The grounds are lovely with lovely plants. The sheep and their bells are very rustic in the surrounding area. The villa itself has absolutely everything you need and require plus more!! Plenty of books and games. We didn't put the telly on once during our 10 days. We recommend ta douliana restaurant 20 minutes walk away.

17th-27th June 2017 We have stayed in several villas in Crete so have some to compare villa Tamos too, it's up there at the top for the views, cleanliness, location and layout of the villa. I'll mention the things that matter .. the pool was clean, spacious and maintained - cleaned twice in our 10 day stay. Villa, equipped with all that's needed, comfortable beds, extra large fans for warm nights, towels, all cooking utensils, clean comfortable sofa, balconies for drinking wine while watching the sun sets/rises, views I can't describe how picturesque the views are..you need to see for yourself, Hot water and plenty of it, beautiful maintained gardens and a very thoughtful cleaner that really does all she can. The owner is obviously experienced or thoughtful as we needed nothing that wasn't there already. If your looking at the villa and reading this then I would recommend a stay, we will be returning to this villa next year and looking forward to it.

Lovely villa in quiet & peaceful location.

We had a lovely holiday in the villa for our second visit, quiet & peaceful location, although some may find the road approaching is a track & rather bumpy. Almyrida is great place for a holiday, everyone so helpful & friendly, we'll be back again.

Stunning

With so many repeat visitors including ourselves you know when you are on to a good thing. Marvellous scenery, quiet and private setting and a small village where you can get genuine Cretan food within walking distance once you have found the track. Entertainment is limited to DVD so take a few box sets.

Amazing views & pool

Lovely villa, very clean and well equipped. Amazing mountain and sea views. Lovely large pool in very private garden. Nice quiet location. Lots of nice tavernas near by serving traditional Cretian cuisine. Lovely beach with shallow water so great for children, also good snorkelling near the rocks.

Lovely Villa Tamos!

We had a great time at Villa Tamos, the house was very clean and thanks for the welcome package with a bottle of cold water when we just arrived. The place is amazing, romantic and relaxing. You have the mountain view and the ocean view with sunset if you wish. Pool was perfect and even better that we had the shower next to the pool, very convenient. We had no problem to manage the summer heat, due to the location of the house and the cool breeze – the house is up in the mountain approx 100 m above sea level. Thanks to the fact that every window and door has mosquito nets we could leave them open all the time. Thanks Lorraine and the family for letting us share the joy of staying at Villa Tamos. (Family of 4 from Sweden – stayed 2 weeks in July 2016)

2nd visit over past 3 years and probably not the last. Villa cleanly presented with all amenities. Stunning private location with 360 degree views as far as you can see. Great well maintained pool and large patios always in the sun. Plenty of great value tavernas nearby - no need to cook. Simple Greek magic.

A quiet place too stay excepional views lovely area. Pool was enjoyed by all. Villa adequate. Journey to Villa bit hairy with a 9 seater but didn't stop us getting about. Would recomend a stay for a peaceful holiday or a more energetic stay ould suit most people.

Superbe, Vue, Équipements, Accueil

Une superbe vue sur la mer, une piscine toujours propre, une villa très jolie et pratique, parfaitement équipée, tout comme chez soi, et le soleil chaque jour. Que demander de plus pour se reposer et découvrir les beaux sites et paysages de la Crète. C'est la 5eme fois que nous venons sur cette île et c'est toujours un bonheur et de paisibles vacances. Nous préférons cette partie à l'ouest pour ses paysages, grottes, plages magnifiques. A notre arrivée très tardive, tout le nécessaire nous attendait: bouteille d'eau fraîche, de vin, et du beurre au frigidaire ainsi que de la bonne huile maison, du café, thé, petits beurre, pain... De très belles attentions. Encore merci à Lorraine et Stuart très sympathiques et accueillants. A recommander sans aucune hésitation. 👍
