Stunning Ranch Headquarters Log Home

PLEASE READ OUR REVIEWS!!!
This beautifully restored Historic Log Ranch Headquarters sits on 7 acres and is located 9 miles south of Angel Fire just off the road to Ocate, NM in stunning and pastoral Black Lake. We enjoy unobstructed views across several ponds, wetlands, and extensive (thousands of acres) ranch lands which surround the home. Great for bird watching in the summer and during migrating seasons. Elk herds can be seen almost daily in the fields next to the home and in the front yard, as well as bald eagles, ospreys and many water birds visit our private ponds. It is 14 min. highway drive to the upper parking lot at the Angel Fire Ski Area. Secluded and quiet even though it is just off a well-maintained state highway. This is the area that helps give 'Land of Enchantment' its name. The views across the valleys are stunning. The Black Lake area is where the high country scenes from the movie "Lonesome Dove" were filmed. It is truly a pleasure to experience this historic and special property. All this backing up against massive public lands.

This two bedroom one bath 1400 sq. ft. red fur timber home sleeps 5 with one king bed and one queen. There is also one fold-out queen couch. The large combined kitchen and living room offers a wonderful setting for viewing nature and sharing time with family and friends. A new range and dishwasher have just been installed. With a wood stove and multiple bay windows it's bright and cheery in the day time and warm and cozy at night. The home also has high efficiency central heat.

Our guests have said that they cannot describe how wonderful their experience was while staying with us. This is a unique mountain property offering a truly mountain experience.

The listing for this property shows conflicting information as to the location of the house. The map and distance to points of interest shows it centrally located, but the description states it is 9 miles away from town. Due to weather and planned activities, we needed a nearby place.The host did respond to my request to cancel, but to date has not responded to my request for a partial refund. We never saw the house or checked in.

The place itself is really nice, it has beautiful views, good location (only 15m drive from the ski area), has tv, internet, kitchen, all the stuff you'd want out of a place like this.Unfortunately the bathroom didn't get cleaned from the previous renters. There was stains in the toilet, toothpaste and hair stuck to the sink and a giant pile of dirty towels in the bathtub that we had to wash. Mind you, if you leave dirty dishes in the sink upon checking-out there's a 50 fee. It brought into question the cleanliness of everything else and we wondered if it had been cleaned at all. The dishes on the drying rack hadn't been put away either.

This was a wonderful place to stay, comfortable bed, quiet. It is right off the highway though so not exactly secluded ranch getaway if you’re looking for a cabin in the middle of nowhere. To help with next guests comfort, we could have used fire starter, a lighter, and decaf coffee and hot tea options would add to comfort. Thank you again for the comfortable stay.

Stunning defines this home and surrounds. The thick timber walls, wood floors and abundant windows with gorgeous views surround you with quiet and beauty. Such a cool getaway! The elk heard was one of the coolest parts. Sitting on the patio and watching the stars. We heard the Elk sounds and seeing them in the distance was memorable. House was nice for the 2 of us. Shower was tiny but that was noted in another comment from a previous renter, so was aware before booking. The wifi only worked in the main living room area and not in the main bedroom. Anytime I needed to message Edward, he answered right away. Saw elk and a deer one day out of our stay. The house was further out than I had anticipated since VRBO won't give you anything other than center of town before booking and before host actually gives address. With one vehicle and one of us needing to be in Eagle Nest at 5am, it left the other at the house which is not close to town at all. All in all it was a pleasant stay.

We had a lovely stay at the Black Lake Ranch! Astounding views of all ranges of wild life. We were a little sad there was no hot tub but a little morning snow made up for it. Cool place - nice setting

Cool place with interesting and appropriate furnishings. We didn't get to stay the whole time because we were hit with an unusual May snow storm and lost power, and water. Hard to communicate with Edward because of weak cell phone coverage without the internet. But he came through and refunded us for our lost night. We really enjoyed our time there and in the surrounding area.

Cozy Cabin

The property was lovely! The property manager was helpful and very responsive. The place was clean and spacious. It had everything you could need for cooking. I will say the oven took a while to heat so wasn’t able to use that like I thought, but the other appliances did the trick. Overall, really enjoyed the stay!
