Alor Setar is a small Malaysian city near Thailand’s border where you’ll get to live and breathe the local culture. It’s not totally about the past here though. The Alor Setar Tower stretches 165m above the low city as a symbol of the region’s modernisation. It has a rotating restaurant (Restoran Sri Angkasa) where the view can be enjoyed along with a meal. The real hearty meals are served down at street level day in, day out. Rice noodles with fish gravy, the filling and scrumptious meat bone dish called bak-kut-teh, and simple but satisfying Chinese roasted meat and rice dishes will have you feeling like a local and ready to try more.
