Hokianga

Rich in Māori heritage, natural wonders and relaxed vibes, Hokianga offers incredible scenery and simple pleasures.

Not only does Hokianga have impressive sites, like kauri trees that are thousands of years old and sand dunes that stand a whopping 150m high, this stretch of New Zealand’s west coast is also dotted with quaint villages. Unwind in sweet seclusion at sandy beaches like Opononi and Omapere and walk through the nature reserves of Signal Hill and Waipoua Forest, where you’ll find those amazing kauri trees. For something a little more extreme, take a water taxi to the dunes for sand boarding.
