Whether you make the half hour journey by car, or like the sound of gliding down the beautiful Swan River on a leisurely two-and-a-half-hour cruise, getting here is half the fun. Watch the cityscape peel back and give way to lush, fertile valleys and orchard-lined roads. Then wind your way into historic Guildford at the heart of the valley, decorated with antique shops, cafes and beautiful 19th-century architecture. The easiest way to explore the area is to simply jump on the Swan Valley Food and Wine Trail, a 32km well-signposted loop that’ll guide you past more than 40 wineries, boutique breweries, restaurants, cafes and roadside stalls. It’ll also lead you past galleries and local heritage sites. But if you’d prefer to make your own zig-zag route across the valley, you’ll have a great (and sometimes hard) time choosing between it all. For waterfalls and blooming wildflowers in the spring, you’ll love Noble Falls Walk Trail, or for natural bushland and wildlife encounters, opt for one of the Whiteman Park Bush Walking Trails.
