Gladstone is 500km north of Brisbane and 100km south-east of Rockhampton. It’s a city known for its industry, especially the Port of Gladstone, the world’s fourth biggest coal exporting terminal. With a booming production of materials such as aluminium and cement, Gladstone is responsible for four per cent of Australia’s wealth. But that’s not all there is to the region. It’s also a place of natural beauty and relaxation for both tourists and locals alike.

Gladstone city is the spot to head to for shopping and dining. Stockland Gladstone is the largest and only fully enclosed shopping mall in town, containing over 45 specialty stores. Goondoon Street features other retail options and a variety of cuisine from pizza to Thai, including alfresco eateries with views spanning the Port and Marina.

There are plenty of opportunities to look into Gladstone’s history. The Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum, established in 1985, features art by and for residents of the Gladstone region, while the Gladstone Maritime Museum details the settlement and early history of the Curtis Coast. Interested in seeing how alumina is produced or coal blended? Take a guided tour through the inner workings of some of Gladstone’s factories.

Of course, a visit to Gladstone wouldn’t be complete without taking in some of its stunning natural attractions. The Toondoon Botanic Gardens are spread across 83 hectares and feature rainforests, lakes, wildlife and walking trails, while Spinnaker Park features ocean-side tracks ideal for walking or riding. A 90 minute drive away is Kroombit Tops National Park, with its gorges, waterfalls and massive sandstone cliffs, while the Beautiful Betsy Walk in Biloela takes you to the site of a Liberator Bomber plane that crashed in World War II. If you want to snorkel or dive the reef, Heron Island and Wilson Island are just off the coast of Gladstone – ideal for bird watching or just plain relaxing. Gladstone is the gateway to it all, so book your Gladstone accommodation with us today.
