What you can expect

  • Begin your adventure with a visit to Jozani Forest, a 44 sq km area that comprises groundwater forest, coastal forest, grassland, mangroves, and salt marsh. Walk through this impressive flora and fauna, home to a wide variety of mammals, birds, and butterflies.

Spot the unique red colobus monkeys, known for their friendly nature and distinctive appearance. Learn about their diet, which consists only of green and young fruits and vegetables. Keep an eye out for other forest species like the dik-dik, elephant shrew, and chameleons.

Next, visit the mangroves area and learn how these vital ecosystems are grown and maintained.

Continue to the Zanzibar Butterfly Centre, a community project aimed at protecting endangered species of butterflies. Set in 5,000 sq ft of beautiful gardens, the centre offers the opportunity to see butterflies up close, feed them, and learn about their fascinating life cycle.

Finally, head to a reptile park to see Aldabra giant tortoises, snakes, chameleons, and more. Then enjoy delicious Swahili snacks or local fruits before concluding your tour at a small local market near Jozani Forest.
