Overview

No venue in the Smokies provides a better glimpse into the human history and diverse cultures that have inhabited this beautiful region. From the Native American villages of 10,000 years ago to the moonshine culture of the 20th century, the Heritage Centre offers a little something for everyone. You can also tour authentic structures of the region which have been relocated to the Heritage Centre campus for preservation and interpretation. These structures are fully furnished, just as you would have encountered them in their original locations. Included in the collection are log structures dating to circa 1800 as well as a church, a sawmill, a blacksmith shop, cantilever barns, and even a moonshine still house!

Standard admission for the self-guided Museum and Village Tour allows guests to tour two indoor museum galleries (with a third under construction) as well as visit the heirloom gardens, historic village, and our 1830s farmstead. Seasonal programming, living history demonstrations, and other features may be available as well depending upon the time of your visit. Spending time at the Heritage Centre provides the most authentic opportunity to connect with the spirit of Townsend, Cades Cove, and the Great Smoky Mountains.
