What you can expect
Experience the charm of Takamatsu on a private walking tour connecting one of Japan’s finest landscape gardens, a lively local shopping district, and the historic waterfront of this castle town.
Begin at Ritsurin Garden, one of Japan’s most celebrated landscape gardens. Walk beside peaceful ponds, carefully pruned pine trees, traditional bridges, and seasonal scenery while your guide explains the history, design, and cultural ideas behind the garden. Admission to Ritsurin Garden is included.
After leaving the garden, continue towards Takamatsu’s covered shopping arcades. These long arcades remain at the heart of everyday local life, where residents shop, eat, and gather throughout the day. Explore cafés, traditional shops, local businesses, and streets that reveal a more authentic side of the city beyond its main tourist attractions.
Along the way, learn about Takamatsu’s food culture, including the city’s famous Sanuki udon. Your guide can recommend long-established restaurants and local favourites to visit after the tour. Food and drinks are optional unless otherwise stated.
Continue towards Takamatsu Castle, now known as Tamamo Park. Built beside the sea, the castle is famous for its rare seawater moat, impressive stone walls, and connection to the history of the Takamatsu Domain. Walk around the historic grounds while learning how the castle helped shape the city’s development as both a castle town and an important port.
Finish near Takamatsu Port and the Sunport waterfront. Enjoy views across the Seto Inland Sea, watch ferries depart for nearby islands, and experience the connection between Takamatsu and the islands that have long shaped the region’s culture.
Throughout the walk, your guide can help take natural travel photos using your own smartphone or camera. Photography support is included, but this is primarily a private cultural and sightseeing walk rather than a professional photography session.
The tour finishes near Takamatsu Port or JR Takamatsu Station, making it easy to continue to nearby islands, restaurants, cafés, or your next destination.
