Hazrat Shahjalal Mazar Sharif

Your journey begins at the main entrance of Hazrat Shahjalal Mazar Sharif, where your local guide welcomes you and introduces the day ahead. Pilgrims travel from across Bangladesh to visit this sacred shrine, making it one of the country’s most important spiritual places. Its national significance is reflected in Dhaka’s main international airport, named Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in his honour. Before entering, your guide explains the customs so you can experience the site respectfully. Walk through the peaceful complex and learn about Hazrat Shahjalal, the influential 14th‑century Sufi saint whose final resting place is here. As devotees gather for prayer and reflection, your guide shares how the shrine became closely connected with Sylhet’s faith, history and identity. You’ll have time to observe, ask questions and take photographs in permitted areas. Ali Amjad Clock Tower

After experiencing Sylhet’s spiritual heart, continue towards the Surma riverside to see Ali Amjad’s Clock, one of the city’s oldest and most recognisable landmarks. Built in 1872 by Nawab Ali Ahmad Khan of Prithimpasha and named after his son, Ali Amjad Khan, the clock has watched over the changing city for more than 150 years. Standing beside Keane Bridge, it remains closely connected with Sylhet’s history and identity. Your guide will share the storey behind the clock and its connection with the influential Prithimpasha family. Take time to observe its simple historic design, photograph the tower and enjoy your first view of the Surma River. From here, the journey continues naturally towards Keane Bridge and the riverside life surrounding it.

Surma River

Beside Ali Amjad’s Clock, pause at the banks of the Surma River, the waterway that has long been part of Sylhet’s daily life and identity. From the riverside, observe local boats, people moving between both banks and the city growing around the water. When the weather, water level and local boat availability are suitable, your guide can arrange a short boat ride. From the river, enjoy a different view of Keane Bridge, the clock tower and everyday life along the riverbanks. Life jackets will be provided where required, and guests must follow the boat operator’s safety guidance. The boat ride is dependant on safe river conditions and cannot be guaranteed. When boating is not possible, your guide will provide additional time for riverside exploration, storytelling and photography.

Keane Bridge

Built in 1936 and named after Sir Michael Keane, the bridge has connected both sides of the city for generations. Your guide will share the bridge’s history and explain why it became such an important symbol of Sylhet. Located at Raja‑Kunjo, the historic home of the Raja family, this small folk museum introduces travellers to Hason Raja, one of Bengal’s most famous mystic poets and songwriters. Explore two galleries featuring historical photographs, personal belongings, books, furniture and folk musical instruments. Your guide will explain how his songs, spiritual ideas and connection to rural life shaped Sylhet’s cultural identity. The museum is closed on Sundays. On Sunday tours, travellers receive a guided introduction outside Raja‑Kunjo before moving to the next stop; entry to the galleries is not possible when the museum is closed.

Osmani Museum
